Tiger boys win Burlington Relays handily

BURLINGTON -- Fort Scott High's boys won the Burlington Relays handily here Tuesday, beating Carbondale-Santa Fe Trail and Iola, which tied for second place, for the championship by 25 1/2 points.

Fort Scott's girls finished in third place behind Santa Fe Trail and Chanute.

Tiger boys again capitalized on the depth they have in field and jumping events, from where both wins and 10 of their 17 medals came. Grant Hartman was the winner in javelin with an effort of 177 feet, 5 inches while Aaron Judy followed with a mark of 157' 9". Meanwhile, Alex Barner won triple jump with an effort of 41' 6 1/2".

Clint Lawrence took second in discus with a mark of 139' 10 1/2". Brandon Boyd was second in the three events. He cleared 6' 2" in high jump and 19' 8" in long jump as well as running the 200 meters in 23.62 seconds.

Thirds went to the 4x100-meter relay team with a time of 45.71 seconds and Lawrence in the shot put with a mark of 46' 5 1/2.

Other boys' medalists were:

* -- The boys' 4x800-meter relay team, fifth in 9:14.

* -- Luke Halsey, sixth in the 100 meters in 12.22.

* -- Josh Buller, sixth in the 1,600 meters in 5:01.

* -- The 4x400-meter relay team was sixth in 3:48.

* -- Chris Archie, sixth in pole vault at 9' 6".

* -- Sean Durnal, sixth in the discus at 117' 2 1/4".

* -- Blake Cowen, eighth in the 110-meter hurdles in 19.6.

* -- Barner in a tie for eighth in high jump at 5' 8".

Fort Scott's girls won two events and 18 medals. The event winners were Breianna Jones in triple jump with an effort of 34' 1 3/4" and the 4x400-meter relay team of Ashley Cavin, Jolee Sharp, Kori Page Rienbolt and Jones, which turned in a time of 4:18.

Jones also had second-place marks in the 200 meters, 26.72 seconds, and the 400 in 61.56. Annie Gladbach took second in javelin at 116' 8 1/2".

Other girls' medalists were:

* -- The 4x100-meter relay team of Cavin, Caitlin Shorter, Rienbolt and Sharp was fourth in 53.92.

* -- Kelsey Parsons, fourth in pole vault, 7' 6".

* -- Catherine Sercer, fourth in the 1,600 meters in 6:10.49 and sixth in the 800 in 2:43.12.

* -- Elizabeth Meech was fifth in shot put with a mark of 32' 9 1/2".

* -- Rienbolt was fifth in the 400 meters in 65.30 and sixth in the 200 meters in 28.73.

* -- Tiffnie Bradley, sixth in discus with a mark of 99' 2".

* -- Sharp was sixth in high jump, clearing 4' 8".

* -- Cavin in the 100 meters, sixth in 14.01.

* -- The 4x800 relay team of Daisy Jones, Kaylie Harper, Libby Halsey and Katelyn Torres was sixth in 11:48.99.

* -- Megan Midkiff, eighth in the 300-meter hurdles in 56.77.

* -- Cassie Ogran was eighth in shot put at 30' 1 1/2".

The Tigers will be in Chanute Friday for the Thad Clements Invitational, which is the last meet before the Southeast Kansas League Relays are held.
