OSWEGO -- Uniontown's softball team, playing for the first time in two weeks, split a non-league triangular here Tuesday.

Oswego, the host for the triangular, took game one, 9-7, as an Eagle rally in the seventh fell just short. Uniontown won the second game from Galena, 17-11, after scoring eight runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Uniontown (3-4) led the opener 4-2 after its turn in the top of the third. But the Indians scored four runs in the bottom of the inning.

The Eagles scored once in the top of the seventh to get within 9-7.

"In spite of not getting a lot of hits, we were able to sratch and claw and score seven runs," Uniontown head coach Alan Shinn said. "Some defensive mistakes were the difference in the game. However, I was pleased with the way the girls were fighting to enable us to stay in the game."

Diana Ayers was two for four to lead the Eagle offense in the opener.

Galena scored four runs in the top of the sixth of game two to take an 11-9 lead. But Uniontown rallied and put the Bulldogs away in the bottom of the sixth. Ayers went in to pitch the seventh, giving up a walk but striking out the side.

Ayers, Rayma Ridge and Kyli Harvey all had three hits. Jessie Camac, Candice Clayton, and Ithaca Marlier each had two hits.
