Thursday, May 1, 2008

Local residents and their children will have the opportunity to witness the puppetry skills of Paul Mesner Puppets at 3 p.m. on May 4 at the Liberty Theatre, 113 S. Main St. The puppet performers will present "Beauty & the Beast" for event attendees.

Mesner, who is not only a puppeteer, but also an author and performer, began studying puppetry as a teenager,. Mesner has performed in various places throughout the United States, according to paulmesnerpuppets.org.

"Audiences across the United States have delighted in the precise craftsmanship, dynamic presentation and joyful blending of humor and education in all his productions. Paul Mesner believes wholeheartedly in entertaining his audiences and doesn't mind including deeper meanings and life-lessons when no one is looking," Mesner's Web site said.

Youth Activities Team member Diana Mitchell said the theater doors will open at 2 p.m. on Sunday for admittance of the general public. The admission price is $2.00 or 200 pennies per entrant. Adding that, all proceeds will benefit Pennies for the Park, which is a campaign designed to raise funds for the betterment and expansion of Ellis Park.

The YAT team has purposed to raise 3.37 million pennies for the park. In addition, the local group of people, has determined to break a world record by lining up 40 miles of pennies.
