Senior Swingers dance has nice turnout, several return

Wednesday, April 30, 2008

We had a nice evening and a good turnout at the senior dance at Buck Run Community Center Monday night. There were not any new dancers, but we had several that hadn't been to the dance for sometime. Illness and the weather have not been very cooperative this spring.

Delores and Charles Hurst from Nevada finally made it back. He isn't dancing, but he enjoyed the music and she loves to danced and enjoyed dancing.

Alva and Virginia McNeely attended the State Fiddlers, Pickers and Singers Convention at Windfield Kansas, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Alva is a delegate from our Marmaton Valley Chapter. He entered the fiddling contest Friday afternoon. He was accompanied by Blain Gee and his Dad, from the Yates Center chapter. Blain is the state president and has been here visiting several times.

Alva won the first place trophy in the fiddling contest. He brought the trophy tonight, to show, and we gave him a big hand of congratulations.

We were glad to see the ladies back from the Hi Rise and that they enjoyed the music.

We had a line dance before the break and again after, with 18 taking part before the break, and 13 after. We always enjoy watching them perform. We also had the few ladies doing the waltz line dance again. They are improving and love to keep trying to learn the steps.

Neva and Alva Hite were back again, she has been down and was unable to walk or get around. She was using a cane tonight. Alva helps get tables and chairs out before the dance and does dance with several of the ladies.

There will be a dance at Cadmus Friday night.
