Marvin Wesley Rankin, age 71, resident of 312 S. Heylman, Fort Scott, Kansas, died Saturday, April 26, 2008, at the Bonner Springs Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bonner Springs, KS. He was born June 28, 1936, in Prescott, KS, the son of Ruben W. Rankin and Elsie Pearl Armer. He married Marilee Elizabeth Wiley in 1960 in Fort Scott. She preceded him in death in 1994. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict. He worked at Lockwood Motors and then at Peerless for 24 years. He was also Bourbon County's Emergency Preparedness Director for 17 years retiring in 1997. Marvin was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church.

Survivors include his son, John Wesley Rankin, Fort Scott; daughter Jane E. Rankin, Fort Scott; two sisters, Lucy Hackney, Kansas City, KS, and Jessie Pohlson, Duarte, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Rosella Henderson.

Funeral services for Marvin Rankin will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial with military honors by the V.F.W. Post #1165 will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation from 12:30 p.m. until service time on Tuesday at Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main.
