Short-handed Eagles still win 17 medals

NEODESHA -- A short-handed Uniontown team, missing one of its male and female athletes due to injuries, won three events and 17 medals at the Neodesha Invitational here Thursday.

Jamie Shelton won boys' javelin with a throw of 151 feet, one inch and also finished third in the high jump. Drew Johnson took boys' high jump at 5' 10" and also took second in the triple jump and fourth in long jump.

Zach Mason won the triple jump with a mark of 40' 2 1/2" and also was second in both hurdles races.

Katie Spainhoward led girls' results by finishing second in shot put and third in discus. Jessica Schaaf was third in the 3,200 meters and fourth in the 1,600. Emily Aikins placed fourth in the 200 and fifth in the 100. Marliss Allen was fifth in both javelin and the 400 meters. Riley Stephens was sixth in javelin.

Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall said that Abbie Smith had to miss another meet with the ankle sprain she suffered at the K.T. Woodman Relays in Wichita two weeks ago. In addition, Ben Dixon had to miss this meet with a strained hamstring he suffered at Uniontown's home meet.

Thursday, the Eagles will go to Iola to participate in a meet that will be hosted by Crest High School.
