Alma Vera Dabney, 93, of Fort Scott, passed away Sunday April 20, 2008 at the Guest Home Estates nursing home. She was born July 15, 1914 in Duvall County, Texas, the daughter of Homer Lee and Mabel Elizabeth (Ratcliff) Holloway. She married Jeff Alvin Dabney in September of 1957 in Hominy, Okla. He preceded her in death February 25, 1977, after 40 years of marriage. Alma enjoyed a full life. She was a Christian Education Leader in Christian churches in Oklahoma and Texas for over 30 years, serving at the city, state, and national levels. She moved to Huntsville, Alabama in 1979 and successfully restored an historic 100 year old house in Old Town and made many friends there. In 1999, she moved to Fort Scott to live with her daughter Lona. She loved many crafts, antiquing, cooking, and the fellowship of her Christian friends and neighbors. Alma is survived by three daughters; Norma Jean Bennett and her husband Les, of Weatherford, Texas, Lona Kipper and her husband Larry, of Fort Scott, Kans., and Janet Ward, of Osage Beach, Mo., six grandchildren; James Alvin Pegg, Elizabeth Faulkner, Debbie Ward, Denise Ward, Brian Kipper, and Brad Kipper, five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild, and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Jeff, she was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters; Edna Crutchfield, and Gladys Nevergall, and two brothers; Bill Holloway, and Melvin Holloway. Following cremation, Rev. Reed Hartford will officiate a celebration of Alma's life Sunday, April 27, 2008 during the Sunday services at the First Christian Church beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be at a later date in Hominy, Okla. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church and left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W. Wall Street, P.O. Box 309, Fort Scott, Kans., 66701.
