KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- Fort Scott Community College's baseball team took over third place in the Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division with a 12-5 win over Kansas City Kansas here Thursday.

The second game of the doubleheader was rained out. Fort Scott is a half-game ahead of KCK at the moment. The Greyhounds are 17-9 in conference play and 27-16 overall while the Blue Devils fell to 16-9, 24-10.

KCK led 4-2 after two innings. But Fort Scott took control with six runs over the next two innings to go up 8-4.

Zach Caldwell, Trevor Geist, and Andrew Minnich each had two hits for the 'Hounds. Geist drove in three runs while Caldwell and Minnich each drove in two. Geist and Jason Houston each hit home runs.

Adam Johnston was the winning pitcher, allowing four earned runs on eight hits in 5 1/3 innings. Garret Woerman earned the save with 1 2/3 perfect innings.

The Greyhounds will try to make up the completion of a suspended game with Independence this afternoon at 4 p.m. at Lions Field if, ironically enough, Thursday's rains didn't make the field to wet to play on. The game will be resumed in the third inning.

Saturday, Fort Scott hosts Neosho County in a Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division doubleheader. Play begins at 1 p.m. at Lions Field. Sunday, the 'Hounds will travel to Highland to make up a division twinbill that was rained out earlier this season.
