'Hound baseball extends win streak to eight games

Wednesday, April 16, 2008

Fort Scott Community College's baseball team extended its winning streak to eight after seeping Coffeyville 3-2 and 6-1 at Lions Field Tuesday.

It's the longest streak for the Greyhounds (16-9 in the Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division, 26-16 overall) since winning seven straight during the early portion of the 2006 season. Coffeyville fell to 9-15, 9-19.

The Greyhounds scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning of the opener to make a winner of pitcher Dan Huff, who allowed 12 hits but walked only one and struck out two.

Ryan Daniel went three for three for the Greyhounds on the first game, then pitched six innings of four-hit ball to win the second. He issued two walks and struck out five before Eldon Little came in and pitched a perfect seventh inning.

Brandt Barnes was two for three with two runs batted in for the Greyhounds. Cullen Baxter was also two for three and Brandon Davis was credited with two runners batted in.

Fort Scott will try to keep its winning ways going Thursday at Kansas City Kansas this afternoon. Also, the time for the completion of a suspended game with Independence on Friday at Lions Field has been changed to 4 p.m.
