The unofficial results showed that Chanute and Pittsburg's No. 5 golfers each had the exact same score and neither team's sixth-place golfer -- if they had one -- was listed on the official results sheet. So it's presumed, at least unofficially, that the tie wasn't broken.
Unofficial league team standings have Chanute still on top with a three-tournament total of 965. Fort Scott is second at 987 and Pittsburg is third with 994. The final SEK designated tournament is at Fort Scott on May 8.
"With winds 20-30 M.P.H. we could not expect to score as well as we had last week, but overall we played pretty well," Fort Scott head coach Ken Klassen said.
Individually, Chanute's Jeremy Gant was the winner, shooting 35 on the front nine and 37 on the back for a total of 72. Landon Williams of Pittsburg was second at 37-38--75 while Brandon Yeubanks of Coffeyville was third with 43-37--80.
Fort Scott golfers took the next three spots. Cole Murrin shot 39-42--81 for fourth place. Tanner Beckham shot a career-best 40-42--82 to place fifth, winning his first varsity medal. Chris Brown was sixth at 41-42--83 after winning the scorecard playoff with Iola's Chase Ellis (43-40) and Pittsburg's Jon Nichols (40-43) and Spencer Orecheln (41-42).
"Cole and Chris were disappointed with their scores, especially because, in general, they struck the ball well but their short game let them down," Klassen said. "But a fourth- and sixth-place finish for the two is not too shabby.
"But Tanner Beckham was the story of the day. He was one happy camper after his round. I hope his good results -- a fifth-place finish -- will encourage Tanner to keep working hard at practice. His teammates will encourage him, I'm sure."
Rounding out Tiger results were Paul Norris, whose 44-40--84 missed out on 10th place only because of the scorecard playoff (five players shot 84), Dyan Renfro, who shot 42-44--86, and Andrew Defenbaugh, 49-49--98.
"Paul and Dylan, like Chris and Cole, did not play as well as they have previously," Klassen said. "But Paul finished tied for 10th and Dylan at 18th. They played well against the field on a day when the conditions were difficult."
The next action of the Tiger varsity will be Monday at the Buck Quincy Invitational in Iola. Play will begin at 8:30 a.m.
