Jayhawk thinclads continue dominance

Tuesday, April 15, 2008

BURLINGTON -- Jayhawk-Linn's track teams had another dominating day here Monday as Burlington's stadium played host to Waverly's annual Gene Farrow Invitational track and field meet.

Uniontown's teams, however, didn't see things go very well, especially considering some of the good performances it had just three days prior at the K.T. Woodman Relays at Wichita State University. In fact, although Eagle performers won 16 medals, they didn't win any events.

Jayhawk-Linn's girls scored 104 points to win their side of the meet. The other girls' scores and none of the boys' team totals were reported.

Taylor Dawson was again a multiple-event winner. She took the long jump at 16 feet, 10 inches and the 200 meters in 27.41 seconds. She was also on two winning relays. Morgan Eastwood, Cassie Rockers, C. Beckman and Dawson took the 4x100-meter relay in 52.89 seconds. Eastwood, Hoover, Rockers and Dawson ran the 4x400 in 4:23.91.

Eastwood won the 300-meter hurdles in 49.98 seconds, rounding out Jayhawk-Linn's winning results. Kaylee Brownback was fourth in that event in 54.48.

Second place went to Rockers in the 100 meters in 13.48, M. Beckman in the 3,200 meters in 13:12 and the 4x800 relay with Sylvia Grant, Mayhugh, Hoover and Long in 10:52.00.

Thirds went to Hoover in the 800 in 2:34.22 and Eastwood in the 100-meter hurdles in 17.61.

Beckman was fourth in discus with an effort of 97' 4". Teammates M. Darringer, at 92' 9", and Wood, at 92' 5", took the final two places in that event. Rockers was fifth in the 200 in 29.45 and Grant was fifth in the 3,200 in 13:35.89. Mayhugh placed fifth in the 1,600 in 6:09.54 while Long was sixth in the 800 in 2:44.76.

The best results for Uniontown's girls were third-place marks in two events. Jessica Schaaf was third in the 3,200 in 13:27.68 and Emily Aikins was third in the 200 in 28.91.

Marliss Allen took fourth in the 400 meters in 68.80. Schaaf was sixth in the 1,600 in 6:21.90 and Riley Stephens finished sixth in javelin with a mark of 84' 11".

Jayhawk-Linn's boys won four events. Briar Snyder and Steven Mann each won two of them. Snyder won both hurdles races as he took the 110's in 15.28 and the 300's in 41.47. Mann won the long jump with a mark of 20' 3" and the triple jump at 41' 10 1/4".

Second-place finishes were taken by Will Sisson in the 100 meters 11.33, Ryan Sutherland in the 800 in 2:05.59, the 4x400 relay team in 45.54 and the 4x400 relay in 3:42.57.

Finishing third for the Jayhawks were Sisson in the 200 in 24.47, Brock Johanning in the 110 hurdles in 16.04, the 4x800 relay in 9:15.64 and Kris Bogan in the javelin with a throw of 146' 10".

D. Thyer was fourth in the 200 for the Jayhawks in 24.54. A. Johnson was fourth in the javelin at 146' 2" and fifth in the shot put at 41' 7 1/4". Johanning finished fourth in the 300's in 43.02. Mann rounds out Jayhawk-Linn medalists with his 100-meter fifth-place time of 11.72.

Uniontown's best effort was from Jamie Shelton in javelin, where he went 156' 4". Zach Mason was third in the 300 hurdles in 43.02 and the triple jump at 39' 2". Drew Johnson placed third in the high jump, clearing 6' 1" with Shelton fourth at 6' 0".

Uniontown's 4x100-meter relay team of Ben Dixon, Shelton, Mason and Johnson was third in 46.77.

Johnson placed fifth in long jump with a mark of 18' 6" and sixth in triple jump at 36' 7 1/4". Mason was sixth in the 110-meter hurdles in 16.87. Dixon was sixth in the 100 meters in 11.74 and the 200 in 24.78.
