The Garland Fire Department will hold it's annual Open house and Fundraiser, Saturday April 26 from 11 a.m.--3 p.m. at the Garland Fire Station. There will be a Flagpole Dedication and special event at 12:30. There is always good food and plenty of entertainment for the whole family. COME AND SUPPORT YOUR LOCAL FIREFIGHTERS.
The special at the Diamond Community Church, April 6 was a duet by Ann Chow and her son, Gary Dixon, accompanied by Violet Magee. The songs were "In Remembrance" and "Father We Love Thee" Pastor Stephen's sermon was the second in a series on Revelation.
The Thrift Club met April 2 with Anna Rourk. The members met for lunch at the Pizza Hut and then went to Anna's for their regular meeting. Esther Secrest, President, led the salute to the American Flag, six members answered roll call. "Guess Whats" were guessed by Sylvia Egdle (strawberry jam) and Revay Brannan (note pad and pencil). After the business meeting and the prayer, the group played Bingo. Winners were Beulah Queen, Juanita Dominques, Revay Brannan and Dorothy Ketner. Blackout was won by Esther Secrest. The hostess served coffee and cookies. The May 7 meeting will be with Esther Secrest. Roll call will be answered with "My plans for the summer."
If you haven't read Guideposts Magazine for April 2008, there is an article in it by Megan Felt, who attended Uniontown High School and was one of the students involved in the presentation of the account of Irene Sendler, who smuggled over 2500 Jewish children to safety during the Holocaust. It became much more than a history project. The name of their presentation was called "Life in a Jar". Congratulations to those students and their teacher.
A recent visitor of Edna Mae Marsh was her niece, Dorothy Karns, Heller, Texas. She also visited other relatives and several friends.
Congratulations to Natalie Wolf for her recent win of a first place blanket at the Winter Series Rodeo sponsored by the Crawford Saddle Club. Natalie is the daughter of Ron and Glenda Wolf.
Dorothy Ketner, Beulah Queen, Anna Rourk, and Esther Secrest on their Ladies Day Out enjoyed lunch at Harry's Cafe in Pittsburg, April 9.
Andrew and Shanna Albright became the proud parents of a baby daughter, Abigail Grace Albright, April 4 at the Mt. Carmel Regional Center, Pittsburg. Andy grew up in this area.
Lois Ann Query and Mary Ellen Lundberg were among those attending the shower for baby Joslyn Mae Lundberg held at the Fort Scott Inn on April 16.
