Hannah Pearl Brown McMillen, age 101, former resident of Fort Scott, died late Thursday, April 10, 2008, at the Country View Nursing Home, in Prescott, Kan. She was born April 10, 2007, in Union Town, Kan., the daughter of Thomas Jackson Ballah and Laura Loretta Bailey Ballah. She married Durward "Duke" Brown on Aug. 8, 1922, in Mound City, Kan. He preceded her in death in 1971. She later married John McMillen on April 11, 1975, in the state of California. He died in 1987. Pearl was a charter member of the Fort Scott Eagles Lodge. She enjoyed crocheting, dancing and working in her flower garden.

Survivors include three sons, Dean Brown, of Fulton, Kan., Gale Brown, of Louisburg, Kan., and Donnie Brown, of Fort Scott, Kan.; a daughter, Delma Wood, or Prescott, Kan.; five step-sons, Leon Allen, Galen, Johnny and Terry McMillen; and a step daughter Goldia Ervin. Also surviving are 17 grandchildren, numerous great- and great-great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Juanita Brown; a son, Gary Brown; a sister, Mary Beckford; a brother, Elmer Ballah, and a son-in-law, Leon Wood.

The Rev. Kevin Moyers will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, April 16, at the Cheney-Witt Memorial Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mapleton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at the Cheney-Witt Chapel.
