Tiger girls third, boys fourth at Paola

PAOLA -- Fort Scott High's girls finished in third place while the boys came in fourth in a 12-team track meet here Friday.

Even with seven medals awarded in each event rather than the usual six, there were not very many individual medalists partly due to the depth of the field and partly due to the performances of the top team on each side of the standings.

Louisburg's girls scored 105 points to win the meet while Paola scored 95. The Tigers were a distant third with 62 points even though they scored points in 14 events.

Paola won the most events of the three, seven, but didn't have any second- or third-place winners. Louisburg won two events and 19 total medals. Paola had 17 total medals and Fort Scott had 14.

The Tigers' only event winner was Breianna Jones, who took the triple jump with an effort of 34 feet, 11 1/2 inches. Jones also took second in the 200-meter dash in 27.70 seconds and fourth in the 100 in 13.43.

Fort Scott's other second-place medal was earned by Annie Gladbach, who threw the javelin 112' 4 1/4".

Catherine Sercer won two medals in distance events. She placed third in the 3,200-meter run in 12:52.34 and fourth in the 1,600 in 5:53.67.

Brittany Bingesser placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with her time of 53.20 seconds.

Ashley Cavin, Jolee Sharp, Kori Page Reinbolt and Jones were on the 4x100-meter relay team which finished fifth in 54 seconds flat. Sharp, Bingesster, Sercer and Rienbolt were fifth in the 4x400 in 4:35.60.

Rienbolt placed fifth in the 400 meters in 66.96 seconds. Sharp was fifth in the high jump, clearing 4' 6" and Kelsey Parsons was fifth in the pole vault, going seven feet.

Elizabeth Meech placed sixth in the shot put with an effort of 32' 6 1/2" and Cavin was seventh in the long jump with a mark of 14' 7 1/4".

Tiger boys won eight medals in six events. Paola dominated the meet with 150 1/2 points and Pittsburg was second with 122. Louisburg was third with 88 points followed by Fort Scott with 45 1/2.

Grant Hartman won javelin with a mark of 174' 4" and Aaron Judy was fourth at 149' 5".

Brandon Boyd placed second in high jump while Alex Barner was third after tie-breakers as both cleared six feet even.

The Tigers 4x100 relay team was third in 46.08. Barner placed fourth in the triple jump at 41' 8 1/4" while Boyd was fifth in long jump at 19' 7". Clint Lawrence was sixth in javelin at 123' 7 1/2".
