Blu-Jays win 44 medals at Southeast meet

CHEROKEE -- Pleasanton's track teams combined to win 44 medals at the Southeast High School Invitational here Tuesday.

Blu-Jay girls finished first in the 10-team meet after winning three events and 25 medals on their way to scoring 134 1/2 points. Host Southeast was second with 74 points followed by Columbus with 71 and Liberal, Mo., with 60.

Pleasanton's boys scored 82 points to finish third. Riverton won the meet with 123 points followed by Southeast with 95. The Blu-Jays won three events and 19 medals.

On the girls' side, Darla Snyder won the discus with a throw of 98 feet, seven inches and also took second in the shot put with a best mark of 29' 4". Megan Allen won the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.4 seconds, was second in the 100 meters in 13.3 and finshed second in triple jump at 32' 3".

Allen was also the anchor of the 4x100-meter relay team with Brytnee Streeter, Carlee Campbell and Rachel Richmond, which finished in 56 seconds flat.

Michelle Mitchell also won multiple medals as she was second in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.8 seconds, the 300-meter hurdles in 58.8 and fourth in javelin at 79' 8".

Cheyanne Reynolds was the last of six second-place winners with a mark of 82' 10" in javelin. She also placed sixth in the 1,600 meters in 7:48.

Campbell was third in two events: long jump at 14' 1" and triple jump at 29' 1 1/2". She also won a third medal when she placed sixth in the 200 meters in 29.7.

Richmond was third in high jump at 4' 8" and fourth in the 800 meters in 3:02.9 and the 1,600 meters in 6:45.

Kim Robinson was third in the shot at 28' 8 1/2" and tied for fifth in discus at 81' 2". Rachel Landrum was third in javelin at 80 feet even.

Streeter was fifth in the 200 meters in 29.5 seconds. Jordyn Saulsberry finished fifth in high jump at four feet even.

Johnnea Saulsberry won three medals, all fifths. She went 12' 10" in long jump, ran the 800 in 3:05.8 and took the 1,600 in 7:01.5.

In boys' events, Jeff Fairbanks won javelin with a throw of 138' 9". Tyler Myrick won high jump at 5' 5". And the 4x100 relay of Dakota Kern, David Sowards, Danny McCullough and Alex Richmond finished in 46.9 seconds.

Danny McCullough took Pleasanton's only second-place medal in the 300-meter hurdles, running a 44.4. He was also third in triple jump, clearing 37' 5".

Chris Duggins took third in shot put at 44' 0 1/2" and was fourth in discus with an effort of 110 feet even.

Pleasanton's other two relay teams had third-place finishes. The 4x4 team with Travis Bradley, Jon Ransier, Gannon Coffman and Cody Raymond ran a 4:07.6. The 4x8 team with Travis Bradley, Gage Harris, Dennis Moore and Richmond turned in a time of 9:51.

T.J. Davis tied for fourth in shot put at 41 feet. Joey Shoopman won a pair of fifth-place medals as he cleared 17' 6" in long jump and 33' 9" in triple jump.

Kodee McKee was fifth in javelin at 120' 3". Skyler Martin took fifth in discus at 106' 2 1/2". And Dennis Moore placed fifth in the 1,600 in 6:09.5.

Kern had a pair of sixth-place medals, running the 100 meters in 11.6 seconds and the 400 in 58.6. Richmond ran the 200 in 24.3 to take sixth. Bradley placed sixth in javelin with a mark of 111' 8".

Pleasanton will host their own invitational Tuesday then go to Wichita for the K.T. Woodman Relays a week from Friday.
