John Matthew Radell, age 83, a resident of Fort Scott, Kansas, died Friday, March 21, 2008, at the Mercy Health Center Emergency Room.
He was born Feb. 12, 1925, in Pittsburg, Kan. to Lawrence Radell and Josephine Karleskint Radell.
He married Beth Norton on Jan. 31, 1953, in Fort Scott. She preceded him in death on Dec. 26, 2006.
Following graduation from Fort Scott High School, John earned his B.S. degree and graduate degrees from Pittsburg State University. He taught at both Winfield Scott and Eugene Ware and served as Principal of the Fulton School.
He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War.
He was a member of Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, the Olson-Frary-Burkhart Post No. 1165 V.F.W., and the National Education Association. He enjoyed delivering Meals on Wheels, bowling, and gardening.
John is survived by his son, Michael Radell and wife Betsy, De Soto, Kan.; four daughters, Kimberly Radell, Lawrence, Kan., Jeanne Black and husband Larry, Baldwin City, Kan., Tracy Schafer and husband Paul, Fort Scott, and Patricia Renfro and husband Danny, Fort Scott; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Beth; sister, Frances Radell; and brother, Ed Radell.
The Rosary will be recited at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at the Mary Queen of Angels Catholic Church. The Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m.
