The W.C.T.U., at its meeting held yesterday, didn't take such pronounced stands on municipal questions as were forecasted. The ladies did not want so much publicity given their efforts to bring about certain reforms believing that premature publicity only lets the enemy know what the methods of procedure are to be.
Hafer and Love this morning commenced the erection of their tent skating rink over near the Plaza. The first floor has been built and the tent was put up today. It is exciting that both of the rinks will be in full operation by the last of the week and the lovers of this popular pastime will have plenty of diversion.
The plasterers today about completed their work on the new Y.M.C.A. building. They are practically through, although they have some finishing work to do.
Frank Drinkwater, formerly of this city, but now on the road for a Kansas City casket house, was in the city today calling on the undertakers.

A party who called at the back door of a Fort Scott residence this morning for something to eat was evidently "looking out for work." He paused momentarily and then left before making his bid for something to eat after observing that the man of the house was engaged in spading up a garden.
Ralph Richards is making some improvements to his rental property at Second and Lincoln streets.
Bert Moore has purchased six lots on State street in the south suburbs and will use the space for garden purposes.
Fort Scott is to be host to 150 basketball players on Friday and Saturday of this week when the Southeastern Kansas Regional tournament for Class A and Class B teams will be held at Memorial Hall. It will be the first time in years that the tournament has been held in this city, Parsons and Pittsburg usually drawing the event.
Many gardens are being laid out over the city and much spading is being done for the planting of both garden and field seeds.
Mrs. Louise Pellett, of the Devon neighborhood, was among visitors in the city yesterday.
The month of February was a cold one. In fact, The Tribune weather records show that only one other February in the past 10 years had a lower average temperature. This was February 1929, with an average of 28.4. The average for the month just passed was 34.35.

(The first entry here in the 50 Years Ago is run as a correction due to the fact that it appeared on March 11 in the 100 Years Ago column.)--The farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Dikeman, 1 1/2 miles east of the Maple Grove School, burned to the ground Sunday morning (March 9), said Fire Chief Sam Ayers who went to the scene. About $1,200 had been spent recently for redecorating the $10,000 home. Dikeman is said to have been at home when the fire started. Mrs. Dikeman and children had gone to church. Ayers said that Dikeman told him he thought the blaze had started from electrical wiring in the basement. No one was injured.
The Prescott Hornets made school history yesterday at Great Bend as they defeated Prescott, last year's Class BB champs, 53-48. Never in Prescott High School annals had a basketball team won first round play in state competition. Don Brown hit 10 out of 14 field goal attempts for 20 points to take game honors. Others scoring for Prescott were Walrod, 10; Laderer, 8; Grigsby, 6; Lowe, 2; and Vaughn, 7.
Teachers in the elementary grades in the Fort Scott Public School System stem were given annual wage increase of $350 and the administrators an average increase of $550 yearly. Wage schedules for the administrators will be: elementary school principals, $5,200; high school principal, $5,900; high school principal and dean of the junior college, $6,800; and superintendent of schools, $8,200.
Mr. and Mrs. Livian (Lucile) Rogers, 644 Marblecrest Terrace, are in Hutchinson today. Mrs. Rogers, librarian for the high school and junior college, is attending an all-day meeting for officers of the Kansas Association of School Librarians, of which she is state treasurer.
