United Way now taking funding applications

United Way of Bourbon County is receiving applications from human services agencies in Bourbon County for financial participation in the fall campaign.

Minimum eligibility criteria for an agency or organization to participate in a United Way campaign includes:

* Qualification as a tax-exempt organization under Section 501(C)3 of the Internal Revenue Code;

* Governance by a volunteer board that serves without compensation and periodically rotates;

* Institution of a formal policy of nondiscrimination and affirmative action;

* Availability of an annual financial reported audited by an independent public account in compliance with generally accepted accounting procedures;

* Non-duplication of similar services already available in the area.

Applications are available from the local United Way office which is located at 116 S. Main St., Fort Scott. Those interested may call (620) 223-0890 or send a request to the United Way of Bourbon County, P.O. Box 286, Fort Scott, KS 66701. All applications must be returned by April 11.
