Mary Josephine "Jo" Sheehy, age 94, resident of 1015 E. 16th St., Fort Scott, Kansas, died early Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008 at Mercy Health Center.
She was born Sept. 21, 1913 in Richards, Mo., the daughter of Walter Smith and NOra Baggerly Smith. She married Ed Sheehy on May 7, 1931 in Fort Scott. He preceded her in death on March 1, 1991. Josephine loved her family dearly. She worked as a CNA at Mercy Hospital for over 25 years, most of that time in the nursery.
Josephine is survived by four daughters, Darlene Murran and Louise Gwin, both of Fort Scott, Sandra Kay Medick, Kansas City, Mo., and Cathy Holbert, Prairie Village, KS; 13 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ed; her daughter, Virginia Lee; three brothers, Charles, Robert, and Herbert Smith; two sisters, Maxine Duncan and Lucille Burr; two grandsons, Franky Lee and Curtis Medick; granddaughter, Debbie Applegate; and great-great-granddaughter, Lauren Thurston.
Funeral services for Mary Josephine Sheehy will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 3, 2008 at the Cheney Witt Chapel with Reed Hartford officiating. Burial will follow in the Memory Gardens Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation from 7 to 8 p.m. Sunday evening at the funeral home.
