UNIONTOWN, Kan. -- Uniontown's girls took a 45-33 win over Crest while Eagle boys fell on Homecoming, 44-31, here Friday night.

Eagle girls gained their first Three Rivers League victory of the season behind the 18-point effort of Riley Stephens. After failing to convert on 11 field-goal attempts in Thursday's make-up game at Altoona-Midway, Stephens made seven of 11 fielders as well as four of six free throws.

Abbie Smith added 10 points for the Eagles while grabbing a team-leading seven rebounds. Brittany Newton led Crest (3-5, 7-13) with eight points.

Uniontown led 14-2 after one period of play.

Crest boys 45, Uniontown 33

Crest wrapped up an unbeaten league season with this win. It is the first league championship for the Lancers (8-0, 19-1) since 1996-97.

The Eagles (5-3, 10-8) tried to keep pace, trailing only 15-10 after one period of play. But Crest held Uniontown to less than 10 points in each of the three remaining quarters.

"I thought our kids were focused and came ready to play tonight," Uniontown head coach Nathan Hinrichs said. "They played hard and smart on both ends of the floor but Crest played a very good game defensively."

Todd Johnston led Crest with 10 points while Brandon Newton added 10. Jesse Johnston paced Uniontown with 12 points.

Both Eagle teams have concluded TRL play but will face a pair of former league rivals next week. Uniontown hosts Pomona-West Franklin Tuesday night and travels to Central Heights Friday.
