Marmaton Valley sweeps Uniontown

UNIONTOWN, Kan. -- Rival Marmaton Valley visited Uniontown Friday night and left the West Bourbon Elementary School gymnasium with a sweep of the Eagles in Three Rivers League play.

Uniontown's boys fell when the Wildcats (3-1 TRL, 12-3 overall) scored the final seven points of the contest.

"Our kids played well," Eagle head coach Nathan Hinrichs said. "And we are very proud of their effort. But Marmaton Valley played a good game and made the plays they needed to down the stretch."

Jesse Johnston led the Eagles (3-2, 8-7) with 19 points. Silas Bloesser followed with eight.

Gavin Cole paced Marmaton Valley with 18 points.

Marmaton Valley got its first TRL victory this season at the expense of the Eagles, who remain without a win in league play.

UHS head coach Ken Holt said that the game had several lead changes but that the Eagles (0-5, 3-12) made a couple of mistakes down the stretch of which the Wildcats (1-3, 3-12) took advantage.

Jayme Shank led Uniontown with 12 points. Abbie Smith scored 10 points and led in rebounds with eight.

Riley Stephens had six assists for the Eagles while Shank picked up three steals

Uniontown won the girls' junior varsity game, 24-14, as Marliss Allen scored 13 points.

Both Uniontown teams will be idle until Friday when they travel to Pleasanton for Three Rivers League games.
