MELVIN EUGENE McREYNOLDS

Melvin Eugene McReynolds, age 68, resident of Weir, Kansas, died Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008 at Mt. Carmel Medical Center in Pittsburg, Kansas.

He was born July 28, 1939 in Fort Scott, the son of Herbert McReynolds and Hazel Lucille Bolin McReynolds. Melvin married Ida Mayberry on Nov. 16, 1957 in Miami, Okla. He operated a wood cutting business in Olathe, Kansas prior to being disabled and retiring to Weir, Kansas. His enjoyment was spending time with children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Ida of the home in Weir; three sons, Chet McReynolds and wife Sharon, Pittsburg, Kansas, Jack McReynolds and wife Barbara and Herb McReynolds and wife Karen, all of Weir; three daughters, Linda McReynolds and husband Larry, Weir, Jewel Cash and husband Mike, Olathe, Kansas, and Cindy Bennett and husband Travis, McCune, Kansas.

Also surviving is his step-mother, Bertha Brown, Wellington, Kansas; two brothers, Robert McReynolds, Gardner, Kansas, Tommy McReynolds, Virginia State; and three sisters, Joyce Farmer, Oxford, Arkansas, Verna Haralson and Evelyn Atchison, both of Wellington; 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Melvin D. McReynolds and two brothers, Billy and Harvey McReynolds.

Evangelist Aaron Williams will conduct funeral services at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30 in the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in Marmaton Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to a Melvin McReynolds Memorials Fund and may be sent to Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O.
