Lighting of the candles preceded the ceremony to "Grace from Heaven," written for the bride by pianist, Paul Herford. The candlelighters were Bailie Brown, niece of the bride, Hannah Geneva, cousin of the bride, Michaela Johnson and Samantha Johnson, nieces of the groom.
The bride, escorted by her father, walked down the aisle to "Canon in F." She wore a simple ivory gown of chiffon with a beaded bodice. The chapel length train was accented with lace detailing. On her right hand, she wore the engagement ring of her great-grandmother, Mildred Ashford. She carried a bouquet of pink roses, snapdragons, calla lilies and eucalyptus with streaming ivory ribbon.
Amanda Smith and Erin Sullivan attended the bride as her matrons of honor and Shanna Albright was her bridesmaid. Jeff Johnson, brother of the groom, served as best man and Mike Johnson, brother of the groom, was groomsman. Gunnar Joe Brown, nephew of the bride, was ring bearer and Skyelar Brown, niece of the bride, was flower girl. Danny Brown and Jared Brown, brothers of the bride, and Chase Brown, nephew of the bride, performed ushering duties. Josh Simpson, friend of the bride, sang "I Will Be Here." Randi Witt attended the guest book and individual candles for the guests, and Treyton Brown, Christopher Johnson, and Katrina Johnson distributed programs and bubbles. Tawny Poole was the ceremony coordinator.
An informal reception followed at Fort Scott Middle School. Table centerpieces of Holy Bibles opened to a scripture selected by the couple with page markers of pink sweetheart roses illuminated by votive candles highlighted each table. The three tiered cake was decorated with flowers identical to the bride's bouquet with pink rose petals accenting the layers and sides.
The bride teaches music at Frank Layden Elementary in Frontenac, Kansas. The groom will receive a degree in elementary education from Pittsburg State University. The couple resides in Fort Scott.
