Jace and Jesse Pavlik have resigned as Sunday School teachers here and plan to attend a church in Joplin, Mo., where they live, attend college and work. We will miss them and wish them well.
Pastor David chose Luke 11: 5-13. He asked that we strive for more hospitality in our daily living. Tie in with our prayers, Ask, seek, knock so it will be opened unto you.
Lou and Betty Dehn took the opportunity to spend the holidays in Florida after Lou attended his reccurent flight training in Orlando, Fla. for four days. They enjoyed 10 days seeing the sites in different areas of Florida while the weather was in the 70s and 80s. Much time was spent in Daytona Beach as well as a drive the two took up to see the Fort at St. Augustine. They visited Betty's cousin at Cocoa Beach and Steve Bradley, former Arcadian, at his home in Melbourne. They returned home to cold weather and snow on the ground.
Condolences go to the family of Leona Mayfield, former Arcadia resident, wno died on Saturday morning, Jan. 19 in the Arma Care Center after being ill since before Christmas. Visitation was 7-8 p.m. Wednesday evening, Jan. 23, in Bedene's Funeral Home in Arma. Funeral services will be there at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24.
Autumn Leaves Senior Citizens met on Monday Jan. 14, for their monthly meeting with 10 present for the dinner. Lisa Roberts from Girard Medical Center took blood pressure readings but left us with the word they will no longer be doing this fine favor for us regularly as in the past. We give thanks for the time they did spend with us.
A carry out dinner was taken to Herman Tyler delivered by Jerry Coonrod and Jack Payne. Jack gave the Blessing. We look forward to Herman returning to our cottage for dinner with the group.
President Lilly Coonrod read "Ten Revelations for Good Old Days." Mary Lee Payne read one of her funnies as did Jerry Coonrod.
The group played Bingo and all won good prizes selected by Lilly. Others present were Bob Cavin, Patty Peterson, Carole Garrison, Helen Sisney, Gary Peterson and Mary V. Shead. Seniors are invited to attend the next carry-in dinner to be held Feb. 11. The folks gather at 11 a.m. Dinner is at noon.
Allen and Linda Watt came from their home in Wichita to spend the weekend with his Mother, Mae Watt. They had late Christmas dinner at Harry's Cafe in Pittsburg. All three attended Arcadia Christian Church followed by a fellowship dinner at Gebhardt's with Pastor David Peterson, John and Vera Parrish, Jace and Jesse Pavlik as guests of Allen and Linda Watt.
On Sunday, Jan. 20, Flowers in memory of Bill Ward who died 19 years ago and his mother, Goldie Ward, who would have been 100 years old on Jan. 19, graced the altar at St. John's Luthern Church in Pittsburg. That Sunday afternoon Ernestine Berkey took the three potted plants to her friends in Arcadia, Olga Bridgewater, Lorene Gibson and Mary V. Shead.
Community Gospel Singing will be held at 6:30-8:30 p.m. Feb. 2, in the Community Center at Arcadia. It is open to the public for a free evening of entertainment.
The last Saturday on Feb. 23, the Community Center is reserved for the AHS OUR GANG dinner and fellowship. Anyone who attended Arcadia schools is welcome to the gatherings.
