PLEASANTON -- Crest's boys and Humboldt's girls were winners in the championship games of the Pleasanton Mid-Season Tournament here Saturday night.

Crest boys (9-1) were 63-39 winners over Humboldt while Humboldt's girls took a 45-32 win over Central Heights.

The highest finishers among the Tribune Area teams were Uniontown's boys and Jayhawk-Linn's girls. Both teams finished third in their respective brackets.

Uniontown's boys defeated Central Heights, 51-47, while Jayhawk girls beat Uniontown, 48-33.

In the fifth-place games, Northeast-Arma's boys defeated Pleasanton, 68-56, and Prairie View's girls drubbed Crest, 52-37.

In seventh-place contests, Jayhawk-Linn's boys were 39-32 winners over Prairie View while Pleasanton's girls took a 33-30 decision over Northeast.

Crest boys 63, Humboldt 39.

The margin of victory may be somewhat surprising as Humboldt came into this game off of 57- and 61-point games in their two wins and also with the No. 7 ranking in Class 2A in the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association poll.

But Brandon Newton scored 32 points for the Lancers, which helped turn a 9-8 game after one period into a 30-20 margin at halftime.

The Crest defense held the Cubs to seven points in the third quarter as the lead extended to 44-27.

Todd Johnston added 12 points for Crest. Corey Henshall led Humboldt with 15 points.

Humboldt girls 45, Central Heights 32.

Humboldt continued its dominant three-point shooting, hitting eight in this game to bring it's three-game tournament total to 19.

Kelci Owens scored 21 points for the Cubs as she knocked down five more triples. She had 10 in the tournament. Meanwhile, Lenzie Boring scored another pair of three's herself and finished the tourney with seven three-pointers. Boring finished with eight points in this game.

Kelly Adkinson and Marissa Cox scored eight points each for Central Heights (4-6), which scored its fewest points of the tournament.

Humboldt led just 20-16 at the half before scoring 17 points in the third quarter.

Uniontown boys 51, Central Heights 47.

Uniontown (6-5) scored 19 points in the third quarter, breaking open a game it led 25-23 at the half.

Jesse Johnston led the Eagles with 11 points while Silas Bloesser followed with 10.

Andrew Horstick scored 19 point for the Vikings (4-6) before fouling out. Jordan Welch followed with eight.

Jayhawk-Linn girls 48, Uniontown 33.

Kaylee Brownback's 11 points paced the Jayhawks (6-4) in this game.

Jayhawk-Linn led 15-6 after one period and 27-14 at the half.

Jayme Shank scored 12 points for the Eagles (3-8) before fouling out.

Pleasanton girls 33, Northeast-Arma 30.

The Blu-Jays (2-9) jumped out to an 11-6 lead but scored only two points in the second quarter.

Fortunately, Northeast only scored four in that period and still trailed 13-10. Both teams scored 20 points in the second half.

Morgan Conrad led the Blu-Jays with nine points. Tiffany Webb had nine for Northeast.

Northeast boys 68, Pleasanton 56.

Northeast jumped out to a 20-8 lead after one quarter and maintained a 39-22 advantage at the half.

The Blu-Jays (3-8) outscored the Vikings 17-11 in the third but couldn't complete the rally in the fourth period.

Tyler Myrick led Pleasanton with 17 points while T.J. Davis had 10. The Blu-Jays hit six three-point shots, including three by Myrick and two by Davis.

Jordan Dohertly led Northeast with 19 points with Todd Brennon right behind with 18. Danny Davied added 12 points.

Jayhawk-Linn boys 39, Prairie View 32.

The Jayhawks (2-8) held leads of 10-2 after one period and 22-7 at the half.

The Buffalos (3-8) got back into the game by outscoring the Jayhawks 17-6 in the third.

Dan Purinton paced Jayhawk-Linn with 11 points while Toby Cornejo had the same to lead Prairie View.

Prairie View girls 52, Crest 37.

Codi Chambers led the Buffs (3-8) with 18 points while teammate Kelli Rauber followed with 13. Kerry Stoneking led Crest (2-8) with 11 points.

Pleasanton's teams are both idle until Friday night when they will travel to Marmaton Valley for a non-league game between Three Rivers League rivals.

Uniontown will travel to Jayhawk-Linn Tuesday for a non-league doubleheader between former TRL foes.
