100 YEARS AGO

(1907)

A man up from Hiattville last night stated hat the Hiattville boys were willing to return here for a game of football on Christmas. No official challenge has been sent to them by the "Has Beens", but this matter will be attended to in a day or two. The Has Beens want to play a return game because they think they can play circles around Hiattville and promise that even Hiattville should have no cause for complaint over roughness to be shown in the proposed game. Such a contest would prove a great attraction.

Mr. and Mrs. John Else announce the arrival yesterday of a 10-pound bouncing boy. The mother and young undertaker are doing nicely.

75 YEARS AGO

(1932)

Figures compiled by City Engineer Fred Hawthorne and submitted to the city commissioner show that the city has expended thus far a total of $1,877.49 on the temporary bridge and detour road near the site of the new bridge over the Marmaton River on North National Ave. Of the above amount $1,146.54 has been expended on the bridge and this amount includes the lights. A total of $740.95 has been spent on the road, but of this amount the city is reimbursed $503.28 through state and federal aid.

ROCKFORD VALLEY: A large number of men took their teams and wagons and gathered in the crops for Glenn Kegerries, which owing to sickness he was unable to take care of. Those present were Bill Hunziker, Forrest

50 YEARS AGO

(1957)

Ralph Palmer, Route 5, who owned the largest acreage of land condemned for the building of a new city reservoir, accepted the appraisers' evaluation and put in an application for payment. Albert Price, street commissioner and utilities commissioner, said that Palmer will receive $17,000 for 220 acres.

A local plumber stated this morning he had not received a single call concerning frozen water pipes. He said it takes an extended cold to freeze pipes intimating that if last night's low of 10 degrees would continue 24 hours, he might receive some calls.

The theft of a $130 taffy-colored cashmere woman's coat from a Fort Scott clothing store has been reported to police and the county sheriff's office. The coat was reported missing Saturday by Mrs. Irene Godina, manger of Mason's Fashions, 19 South Main. Police will appreciate any information concerning the missing garment.

Brian McElroy scored 21 points to help Liberty Savings & Loan past Al's Angels 56-54 in an Industrial League--Division II match-up at Memorial Hall. Kim Cobler led Al's with 22 points and Roger Davis added 16.
