November activities give way to holiday plans

Jerry and Lilly Coonrod entertained her daughter, Carmen Ange and sons, Jared and Curtis from Topeka on Thanksgiving day.

Our condolences to the Mel Payne family whose funeral was 2 p.m. Sunday, in Open Door Mission.

AHS Our Gang  Get-together will be Red and Green Night, Dec. 15, 2007 in Arcadia Community Center, 6:30 p.m..  There will be soup furnished and finger foods by the rest of the crowd.  Gift exchange for those who care enough to bring a gift worth $5 to $10.  Wear red or green.  Christmas Caroling, weather permitting.

In Arcadia Christian Church, Gary Peterson has been teaching the JOY Sunday School class.  The first Sunday in December, Jace Pavlik was guest minister.  Twenty  attended the twice Blessed turkey dinner with all the trimmings.  Following, the decorating committee  put up the Christmas tree and other decorations in the church in keeping with the season.

Birthday offerings were given for Bill Watt and Tommy L. Watt III and Melissa Due.  Courtney Allen and Alyssa Fehber were taught by Patty Peterson.

During the November holiday, Port Corporon Hughes spent time with her daughter, Kirby and John Gould, Ginny and Katie in Olathe. Other guests were Tim Hughes, Topeka; Belinda and Brian Ammerman from Bridgeport, Texas.

Jack and Mary Lee Payne family enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner at the David, Amy, Drew and Lane Carpenter's home near Nevada, Mo.  on Friday with Ron, Cindy and Seth Morton; James, Nikki and Lanie Grace O'Dell; Kimberlee and Maddie Peppers; Steve, Kelly and Ben Base; Jeff, Sherry and Courtney Sisney; Chris Payne and Grandmother Helen Payne present.  Also attending were Ben Base's fiancee Faith Payne and Chris Payne's Fiancee Mindy  Davied.  It was truly a day of Thanksgiving.

Tom and Phyllis Watt recently returned home in Lee's Summit, Mo. from vacationing on Sanibel Island, Florida, just west of Fort Meyers. It is known for its sandy white beaches, warm, clear water and sea shells.  The couple enjoyed golf, fishing, relaxing and collecting a variety of sea shells.

Cheryl Robinson of rural Arcadia is now the Postmaster Relief in Arcadia as announced by the Postmaster Kathy Shaefer. You may get acquainted with her on Saturday mornings from 8-8:30 a.m..

On Nov. 19, JOY Sunday School class held its monthly meeting and planned for their December holiday dinner for church members and friends 75 years old and above.

Special guests were Walter and Donnetta Parrish from Sugarland, Texas, Ralph and Cindy Shead from Carl Junction, Mo. Walter and Ralph grew up in this church.

A special check from the Little Church birthday offerings at Sunday School time was sent to Campus Christians at PSU for their new building project.

Pastor David Peterson and the Sheads gave a report about the National Missionary Convention they attended the week before.

President Patty Peterson asked the question, What was used to make the manger?  It is believed the manger was constructed of mud or clay. 

Others enjoying the dinner that was blessed by Pastor David were John and Vera Parrish, Mae Watt, Wayne and Christie Parrish,, Betty Dehn, Mary V. Shead.

After Christmas shopping, Ernestine Berkey, Angela Redd with Kristen enjoy ed dinner at Wendy's in Pittsburg on Saturday.

Special happenings in Arcadia during the month of December include:  a free potluck dinner -- people brought their best dished to the Arcadia Community Center on Saturday night..

Dec.10, drawing for a $50 savings bond at the Council meeting.  Tickets on sale at Arcadia City Hall.

Treats for all from Santa, Sunday, Dec. 16, at the Arcadia Community Center.

Arcadia City Hall closed for Christmas, Dec. 24 and 25.

 Dec. 22, Saturday night 6:30 at the Arcadia Community Center, Gospel Sing.
