Greyhound teams suffer losses in Coffeyville

Monday, December 3, 2007

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. -- Only two Greyhounds scored more than three points -- and one of them had just seven points -- as Fort Scott Community College's men took a 60-37 drubbing at the hands of Garden City in the final game of the first day of the Jayhawk Conference Shootout here Friday night.

The point total was the lowest ever recorded in the shot-clock era. The previous low was 46 points in a one-point loss at Independence on March 2, 2005. In fact, there hasn't been a recorded lower total in any game, shot clock or not, since Feb. 14, 1950, when FSCC scored only 33 points against Joplin Junior College. It's the sixth-lowest known point total since before the United Stated entered World War II.

Arsenio Williams scored 19 points for the Greyhounds, who fell to 3-4 on the season but 0-4 against junior colleges. He scored 11 of those points at the free-throw line. Brandon Kinnie was next for the 'Hounds with just seven points.

Chrs Roquemore led Garden City, 10-2, with 16 points. Corey Claitt added 11 points for the Broncbusters.

Fort Scott shot just 30 percent from the field, making 12 of 40 field-goal attempts. Garden City shot 39 percent on 25 of 64.

The Greyhounds committed 32 turnovers in the contest. For what it's worth, they outrbounded the Busters, 40-36. Williams and Willie Bland each had eight rebounds for the Greyhounds.

Fort Scott is scheduled to play Hutchinson at 9 p.m. Sunday night in what will be the last men's game of the Shootout.
