Area families host holiday parties

Thanksgiving Day guests at the John Coyan home were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Endicott and Alyssa, and Mr. and Mrs. Greg Schick and family.

Mary Grace Schick spent Wednesday night with her aunt Karne and Uncle John and enjoyed helping her Aunt Karen make pies.

Lavone Page hosted Thanksgiving dinner for Mr. and Mrs. Bill Page, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Brillhart, and Eli and Erin Green. Afternoon callers were Mr. and Mrs. Steve Mason and family.

Mr. and Mrs. Roger Miller and Alex were hosts for a Thanksgiving dinner. Present were Lori's mother, Mrs. Stella Clevenger, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Clevenger of Chetopa; Mr. and Mrs. Steve Sealey, Jillian and Adrienne of Parsons; Logan Miller, Megan Clark, Ryan Snyder and Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Miller.

John Slater enjoyed a recent hunting trip with his brother in Kansas and up in the Dakotas. He reports a very fruitful trip.

Mr. and Mrs. Robert Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Brown recently attended the annual conference for the Kansas Association of Conservation Districts at the Airport Hilton in Wichita. Ronnie is on the board of directors for the association and Mrs. Brown is president of the state auxiliary. Robert is on the state wildlife committee, and Mrs. Miller is vice-president of the auxiliary. Among the main speakers were former governor Mike Hayden, 1st District Congressman Jerry Moran and Bill Spiegel, editor of Kansas Farmer magazine.

On Thanksgiving Day, Mr. and Mrs. Dean Mitchell were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Hines and Ben in Sheldon, Mo. Sunday they drove to Waverly where they were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Rod McGinnis, Codi and Chance.

Judy Tripp and Debbie Duffy drove to Lincoln, Kan., on Wednesday to attend the retirement party for Debbie's father. They returned home on Thanksgiving Day where they enjoyed a family gathering at the home of Nickie Collins and Tim Brown.

David, Andy, Jessica, Cassie and Zack Schwalm again helped with the Thanksgiving dinner at the Elks Lodge. David's mother, Marjorie Schwalm, coordinates this dinner every year. They report serving more than 500 dinners that day.

Herman Werholtz enjoyed having Thanksgiving dinner in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Woodworth in Iola. On Friday, visitors at the Werholtz home were Mr. and Mrs. Lonnie Bailey, Tracy Brown and boys, and Mr. and Mrs. Brian Bailey and family.

Mr. and Mrs. Mark Brillhart and Clay were hosts for his family Thanksgiving Day.

Mr. and Mrs. John Slater attended a reunion of John's family Thanksgiving at Enid, Okla. On the way home, they spent a couple of days with their son and his family in Oklahoma.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ludlum spent the Thanksgiving holiday with their daughters Kelli and Beth in Washington D.C.

Mr. and Mrs. Kevin Wagner, Kayla and Kole spent Thanksgiving at the home of Kevin's aunt in Humbolt.

Kayla Wagner spent the weekend in Joplin visiting with friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Bob Miller hosted a family for their children and their families and her father Glenn Smith. Dinner was sent to her mother Ethel who was unable to attend.

Patty Gauthier is home from the hospital and recovering from her bout with pneumonia.

Barry, Laura and Payton Vogelbacker of Spring Hill spent the weekend at the Charles Brewer home. Thanksgiving Day, they along with Charles, Paula and Clara Brewer, attended a family dinner at the home of George and Mildred Hall in Fort Scott. Other guests were Hazel Hall, Don, Ashten and Erin Hall of Kingman; Dana, Gabe, and Abby Harris and Tim Usury of Pittsburg.

Beverly Davis entertained a large group of family and friends for dinner Thanksgiving Day.

Ed and Barb McDaniel enjoyed e-mailing messages to their granddaughter in Korea Thanksgiving Day. Their son Eddie joined them for lunch that day.

Mr. and Mrs. Earl Maloney and Mrs. Opal Maloney enjoyed Thanksgiving dinner at the home of Mrs. Maloney's sister Betty and husband.

Mr. and Mrs. Rick Biles, William and Elizabeth of Topeka were Thanksgiving guests of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Callow.

Congratulations to Jamie Collins for being inducted into the National Honor Society at Fort Scott High School.

Pastor Smith's sermon was titled "Our King Forgives." Scripture was read from Colossians 1: 11-20 and Luke 23:33-43. This was Christ the King Sunday.

On Saturday, Dec. 1 at 4 p.m., all are invited to the celebration of the hanging of the greens and the beginning of the Advent season by decorating the church.

On Dec. 9, the Community Choir will perform their Christmas Cantata during the worship hour. The Christmas program will be Dec. 16 at 7 p.m.

Starting Dec. 6 through Dec. 20, on Thursday nights from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., there will be a candlelit vigil at the church. This will be an opportunity for prayer, meditation, listed to music and receive communion. Everyone is invited to participate in these services.

On Dec. 24 at 10 p.m., there will be a Christmas Eve service at the church.
