Shirley Palmer, Maxine Smith and Esther Secrest from this area were among those attending the Bourbon County Unit of the Kansas Association of Retired School Personnel, Nov. 10 at Fort Scott High School. An interesting program was presented. Maudine Picht gave a report on the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Margaret Titus read the meaning of the folds on the American flag, while Wayne Stringer and Joe Titus folded the flag. She also told how the "Taps" played at a military funeral came about. The one room schoolhouse will be open during the homes tour.
Clayton Brillhart spent Sunday night and Monday with his grandparents Ed and Opal Brillhart.
Edna Mae Marsh and Bob and Bonita Wrestler drove to Vian, Okla. for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Harvey, Nov. 9.
Kate Brillhart and Kate Howard ate lunch with Ed and Opal Brillhart, Nov. 7. Rose Marie Wilkerson, Eloise Brown and Beulah Queen visited with Edna Marsh, Oct. 31. The women enjoyed playing cards in the afternoon.
Ricky and Carol Singmaster and Sylvia hosted the second annual pre-holiday get together for Singmaster and Friends, Nov. 11. The meat was cooked by Gary Singmaster. Those attending brought delicious food for all to enjoy. Ricky played piano during the meal. Later Sylvia sang several songs. Poems were read by Marjorie Lewis and Esther Secrest. Others told of some of the good times they had while growing up with their cousins. Close to sixty enjoyed the afternoon at the Cherry Grove Church.
Pastor James Mwirigi preached at the Diamond Community Church, Nov. 11. A special group from Joplin sang "Here I Am to Worship" and "Holy Anointed." The regular pastor Muhota was on a mission trip to Texas.
Nicholas and LaDessa Bostick and sons Kingston, Sherman and Tex who were here visiting his grandmother, Mary Ellen Lundberg in addition to other relatives, visited with Esther Secrest Monday morning. They returned home Tuesday.
Eldon and Pam Korinek spent the weekend in Branson attending shows and shopping.
Edna Mae Marsh was among those attending the birthday party for Marjorie Lauber, Nov. 11. Her children and grandchildren hosted the party.
A letter from Kathryn and Clarence Singmaster reported that their daughter Donna and husband Tim were among those who had to leave their homes during the fire in California. It burned right up to their mailbox. They own avocodo orchards and were thankful they were spared.
