Jayhawks going to 3A State

ERIE -- Second-seeded Jayhawk-Linn knocked off top seed Frontenac in two games in the finals of the Erie Class 3A Sub-State Volleyball Tournament, earning a trip to this weekend’s Class 3A State Tournament at Salina.

The Jayhawks, 30-11, will be the No. 6 seed at State as they are one of five teams with 30 victories.

The Jayhawks started the day with a sweep of Galena, 25-19, 25-11, in the first round. They beat host Erie, 25-14, 25-11, to advance to the final against Frontenac.

The Jayhawks will begin pool play at State at 9:30 Friday morning against No. 3 seed Silver Lake, 34-6. They will turn right around and play No. 2 seed Hutchinson Trinity, 31-4, at 10:30.

The final match play will be at 2:30 against No. 7 seed Jefferson County North, 28-11.

Semifinals will take place at 10 a.m. Saturday morning with the third-place and championship matches to take place 25 minutes after the conclusion of the semifinals.

The other pool has No. 1 Salina Sacred Heart, 37-3, No. 4 Pomona-West Franklin (31-10), No. 5 Whitewater-Remington, 28-10, and No. 8 Norton, 13-20.
