Uniontown takes sweep in last league triangular

Wednesday, October 3, 2007

PLEASANTON -- Uniontown's volleyball team swept Crest and Pleasanton in its final Three Rivers League triangular of the season here Tuesday night.

The Eagles defeated Crest, 21-25, 25-17, 25-13. Kyli Harvey was successful on 17 of 18 attacks and recorded nine kills. Riley Stephens was 11 of 15 in attack and had six kills.

The Eagles then swept Pleasanton, 25-14, 25-21. Harvey was 14 of 18 in attack with five kills while Stephens was seven of nine with four kills.

"This was not our best evening of volleyball," Uniontown head coach Jackie Hall said. "But we will take the two league wins. We are still struggling with communication on the court. But Kyli Harvey really stepped up in the middle hitter position. I kept Char Bradbury out of the lineup due to an ankle sprain but she will be back in the lineup for this weekend."

Crest extended Uniontown to three games for just the third time this season. The Eagles had lost the previous two such matches.

The Eagles finished the league season with a 5-3 record and are 13-10 overall.

The Uniontown JV swept Crest 25-12 and 25-9 as Taylor Rathburn served 12 points and Marliss Allen served 11. The Eagles then swept Pleasanton, 25-17, 25-19, as Allen served for 13 points.

Uniontown's JV also played Thursday at Frontenac. They swept Northeast-Arma, 25-19, 25-12, as Jessie Camac served eight points. The Eagles also swept Frontenac, 25-14, 25-8, as Rayma Ridge served 18 points.

The Eagle JV has a 21-4 record. The JV will step into the Uniontown Invitational this Saturday to fill in for a team that withdrew.

Play at the otherwise-varsity Uniontown tournament will get underway at 9 a.m. Saturday morning. Both the West Bourbon Elementary and UHS gyms will be used.
