In Thursday's Fort Scott Middle School football action, the Gators avenged their defeat by the Bulls on Monday with a 20-12 victory. Meanwhile, the Huskers narrowly escaped a similar fate at the hands of the Battlecats by scoring a fourth-quarter touchdown and winning in overtime 14-8.

In the first contest, Cody McGeehee of the Gators broke a 57-yard run up the middle to put his team in the lead early. In the second quarter, he scored again on a sweep that went 34 yards. The extra point attempt was successful on a pass from Luke Brown to Reed Ramsey for a 14-0 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, the Bulls countered with a 34-yard scoring strike from Jonathan Stark to Matt Middleton. Early in the fourth, Brown of the Gators added another touchdown to his team's total on a two-yard sneak.

Baker Weilert came back to score for the Bulls on a nine-yard counter run. But the Bulls' final possession driving to tie the game ran out of downs and time inside the Gator 20-yard line.

McGeehee had 107 yards rushing for the game and Luke Brown made 11 tackles for the Gators. Weilert had 47 yards rushing to lead the Bulls and Jonathan Stark had 9 tackles. Stark had 132 yards passing..

In the second game, a scoreless tie at the half was broken by Jason Thorpe's 15-yard run around left end for the Battlecats. Cameron Woodring added the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Huskers capitalized on a turnover to drive 60 yards for a tying touchdown, as Matt Wright took the ball into the end zone on a two-yard quarterback sneak and Don Savage ran in the two-point conversion.

The Huskers scored on their possession in overtime on a five-yard run up the middle by Savage. The Battlecats could not push the ball across the goal line on their possession and the Huskers emerged victorious.

Savage had 45 yards rushing for the Huskers, who were led on defense by Savage with 10 stops and Glen Gaeke who had 8 tackles.

Thorpe had 75 yards rushing in the game and made 6 tackles for the Battlecats. Josh West had 5 tackles.

The next middle school games will be Thursday at 3:30 and 5:00.
