Hiattville UMC to participate in Round-up for Hunger

Effie Mitchell and Pat Vincent gave birthday offerings during worship services Sunday, Sept. 16. Pastor Andy Smith's sermon was titled "Will We Look for Them?" Scripture was read from Jeremiah 4:11-12, 22-28 and Luke 15: 1-10.

The monthly administrative board meeting was held immediately following Sunday School hour, with Ronnie Brown presiding.

Starting in October, Pastor Andy will have a youth study for the Sunday School class using the book "The Gospel according to the Simpsons.: If you want a book, contact Pastor Andy.

The church will again be participating in the bishop's Round-Up for Hunger, which will be Nov. 11 in Lawrence. We will be collecting food, clothing, health kits and school kits. Pastor Andy and the youth are in talks about traveling to Lawrence to volunteer.

Ideal Chapter Order of the Eastern Star members attending the three-way meeting of Olive, Violet and Ideal chapters to host the District Aide of District No.4, Lorraine Morrison of Amy Chapter, Galena, were Effie and Dean Mitchell. Clara Brewer and Gayla Croan.

Lorna Slater and Beverly Davis attended a meeting of the Garden Club Sept. 18 at the home of Judy Orton.

Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Miller, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Miller and Mr. and Mrs. Dustin Miller and boys attended a dinner in honor of Daniel Meisenheimer Sept. 16, hosted by his parents, Heather and Jason at their home in Nevada, Mo. Daniel was home on leave for a few days after his graduation from basic training.

Mr. and Mrs. Joe Ludlum attended the Kansas State Fair the weekend of Sept. 15 and brought back the exhibits that had been sent from Bourbon County.

Callers at the Brewer home Sept. 22 were Laura and Payton Vogelbacher of Spring Hill, Abby Harris, Pittsburg, Mildred Hall, Fort Scott, Kevin, Rachel and Kole Wagner, Clarles and Paula Brewer. Kole enjoyed taking Payton riding on the four-wheeler.

Judy Tripps spent Friday night with Virgina Chambers in La Cygnes.

Blake Hixon spent Saturday night with his great-grandparents, Dean and Effie Mitchell and attended church with the Sunday morning.

Congradulations to Hannah Fry for winning a top blue ribbon on demonstration at the recent state fair.

Katelyn Vincent and Gwen Fry gave birthday offerings Sunday morning during worship time. Pastor Andy's surmon was titled "You Just Have it." Scripture was read from Timothy 2:1-7 and Luke 16: 1-13. This was the third sermon in a series on bridges to the future.

Harold Headrick is spending some time at his farm home and was visitor at church Sunday.

Beverly Davis spent a few days this past weekend at Lawrence visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Keith Thomas.

Laura and Payton Vogelbacker spent the week with Charles and Paula Brewer.

The Rev. Carl and Mrs. Ellis were in Fort Scott Friday visiting with Elmer Miller at the hospital.
