Worship, music, hunting bring people together

The Kan-Mo-Jolly Circle Club met Sept. 20 at the Diamond Community Church to celebrate their 70th birthday.

Mary Ellen Lundberg read the history of the beginning of the club back in 1937. Georgia Lundberg Strickland and Geraldine Parker Coonrod were in attendance and told of being children and going to the first meeting with their mothers. Other visitors enjoying the afternoon were Marjorie Lewis (former member), Beverly Peel, Lucile Johnson and Marty Strickland.

Hazel Gulliford conducted the meeting. Jane Ann Peterson was hostess. The flag salute was given and the club motto repeated. Reports were given. Eleven members answered roll. The election results were Hazel Gulliford, president; Jane Ann Peterson, vice president; and Mary Ellen Lundberg, secretary and treasurer. Jane Ann gave each one attending a crocheted wash cloth that she had made. Winners at games were Mary Ellen Lundberg, Esther Secrest and Ruby Myers. Lucile Wolf won the door prize.

The hostess read Isaiah 40; 30, 31 and the Good Thought titled "I'm trying to be like Jesus." Ruby Kennedy will have the Oct. 18 meeting. Roll call will be answered with Show and Tell. Refreshments of birthday cake, ice cream and punch were served.

Congratulations to Wendy Korinek and John Saldivar who were married Sept. 15, at the First Presbyterian Church in Fort Scott. The reception was held at the Elks Lodge. Wendy is the daughter of Eldon and Pam Korinek.

The Schilling reunion will be Oct. 13 at the Fort Scott Inn. Each family is to bring a covered dish for the lunch.

Edna Mae Marsh attended the Harvey Sibling monthly get-together at the home of Bob and Bonita Wrestler, Chanute on Sept. 13. Marjorie Lewis, Esther Secrest, Kathryn Singmaster, Beaverton, Ore., and Donna Singmaster, Fallbrook, Calif., enjoyed dinner at the Mayberry's Restaurant on Sept. 14. Kathryn and Donna were also visiting Kathryn's sister Frances Robinson and family in Uniontown.

Ed and Opal Brillhart recently entertained long-time friends Jo and Don Scott of Independence. They spent the day visiting and touring various points of interest in Fort Scott. Jo and Opal were best friends in high school.

A recent birthday at the Cherry Grove Baptist Church was for Lois Parks. Emely, Kale and Jezeriah Simpson were baptized. Sylvia Singmaster sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Tell It On The Mountain." Pastor Dale's sermon was titled "Growing Up," based on Peter 1-17.

The last news items from Southeast Scott should have read Sylvia Singmaster sang "Over the Rainbow" at the Airport Days and Macey Conner had her first birthday.

Dorothy Ketner, Esther Secrest and Beulah Queen enjoyed lunch at the Chinese Chef Restaurant in Nevada on Sept. 22.

Ricky Singmaster, accompanied by Gary Singmaster, recently delivered a telescope to a client at Monument, Colo. They also visited relatives in Colorado Springs; Ray Singmaster and family and Janet and Posie Barker and family.

Esther Secrest accompanied Dale and Betty Hixon and Dorothy DeCoudres to Springfield, Mo., on Sept. 21 where they visited Carl and Helen Secrest.

Pastor Muhota's sermon at the Diamond Community Church on Sept. 23 was titled "The Good Soil" based on Matthew 13; 1-23. The Muhota children sang the special "Our God Is Here." Birthdays recognized were for Rahab Mbuthia, Edna Mae Marsha and Tom Ford. There will be a special offering taken Oct. 7 for money to buy articles to fill the Operation Christmas Card shoe boxes. Last year, the church filled 33 boxes.

Sue Gray, San Diego, Calif., has been here helping her mother, Edna Mae Marsh, celebrate her birthday. She has also visited other relatives.

Granddaughters Hadley and Ivy Brillhart recently visited with Ed and Opal Brillhart for five days. Ed and Opal took them home to Independence, Mo., on Sept. 20.

Donna Wheeler is able to be home after undergoing knee surgery last Thursday. She will be on crutches for several weeks.

Some of the men in the area started the coon hunting season recently. One man said he likes to listen to hounds bay when they tree a coon.

Several people from this community attended the all church revival meeting in Fort Scott last week. They reported good sermons and good attendance each night.

I would like to thank Ralph Carlson for his work in putting together good musical programs each Friday evening for the citizens of the community to enjoy. I hope he will do it again next summer. Thanks again!
