Edna Chriselda (Wolfe) Pierce, 92, formerly of the West Liberty area, near Hammond, Kansas, passed away in Phoenix, Arizona, Sunday morning, September 23, 2007. She was born June 24, 1915, the youngest child of Elmer J. and Cora B. (Oman) Wolfe, in el Dorado Springs, Missouri. She married Dixie J. Pierce December 6, 1936 in Fort Scott, Kansas. He preceded her in death February 23, 1991.
As a child, she moved with her family to rural Fort Scott where she attended school, graduating from Fort Scott High School, after which she worked for the Western Insurance Company until her marriage to Dixie in 1936.
In 1954 Edna began working for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and retired after 20years of service in 1974. Dixie and Edna resided on their farm in the West Liberty community, until his death, after which Edna moved to Chanute, Kansas, to be near family. When her health began to fail, she moved to Groves, Texas to live with her daughter, Shirley. In October of 2005, she moved to Phoenix, Arizona to be in a care home. She resided there until her death.
Edna was a member of West Liberty United Methodist Church for more than 50 years. During her years in Chanute, she transferred her membership to the First united Methodist Church of Chanute. She was also a member of Violet Chapter of the Order of the Easter Star for over 50 years. She enjoyed traveling, reading, quilting, and sewing.
She is survived by her three daughters; Shirley Brack and husband Don of Groves, Texas, Charlotte (Suzy) Truitt of Phoenix, Arizona, and Marilyn Hurt and husband Ron of Chanute, Kansas, five grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Dixie, she was preceded in death by her parents, five brothers; Leslie, Ray, Cecil, Floyd, and Lawrence Wolfe, one sister; Geneva Shelton, and one daughter; Nelda Kay.
Rev. Ron Brown will conduct funeral services 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 27, 2007 at the West Liberty United Methodist Church, with visitation prior to the service beginning at 9:00 a.m., also at the church. Burial will be at the Pleasant View Cemetery at Blue Mound, Kansas. Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 1510 E.
