Sercer runner-up at Doc Stiles meet

IOLA -- Fort Scott High's Catherine Sercer finished second in the varsity girls' race at the Doc Stiles Invitational hosted by Iola High School at Riverside Park here Thursday.

Sercer completed the four-kilometer course in 17 minutes, 16.74 seconds. Alicia Whitehurst of Independence, the dominant runner in the Southeast Kansas League so far this season, was the winner in 16:47.25. Teammate Julia Stafford was third in 17:21.61.

Daisy Jones finished 33rd for the Tigers as she finished in 19:19.36. Sarah Gray was 40th in 20:40.51.

Charlie Sercer finished 26th for Fort Scott in the 5K boys' varsity race with a time of 19:06.21. Trevor Hinkle of Nevada was the winner in 16:59.00.

Fort Scott's Kaylie Harper was the winner of the 3,200-meter girls' junior varsity race. She completed the course in 14:45.72 with runner-up Jeanine Kurshek of Girard finishing in 15:03.57.

Kim Henry finished in ninth place for the Tigers in 15:57.92. Erica Davis was 17th in 16:27.79. Kim Stone finished 37th in 20:26.21.

Colton Ballou finished 19th for the Tigers in the 3,200-meter boys' JV race with a time of 16:11.19.

The Tigers will compete at Pittsburg's Four Oaks Golf Course Thursday. The first race will begin at 4 p.m.
