Gatherings, accomplishments, birthdays celebrated in South East Scott Area

Tuesday, September 11, 2007
Rev. Stephen Muhota, pastor at the Diamond Community Church, dedicated on Sept. 9 Twambilie Bambokile, the baby daughter of Anderson and Jacqueline Bambokile. Several visitors attended, including Edith and Travis Sample, of Joplin,Mo., who sang "It is you" and "Holy." The Muhota family joined them.

Rev. Muhota's sermon was titled "He who hears, let him hear," which was based on the Bible passage from Matthew 13:1-23. Muhota also gave an interesting report on his mission trip to Kenya after the dinner.

Carol and Brittany Bingesser Sept. 3 went to Kansas City.

The Thrift Club met with Esther Secrest after they enjoyed lunch at Pizza Hut. Dorothy Ketner led the flag staute and sang the theme song "The more we get together" followed by prayer. Esther read the 121st Palm and several articles were read.

Bingo was played with all present winning. Ketner won the blackout prize. The Ocotober meeting will be with Revay Brannen.

Miss Michaela Safford, Lawrence, completed in the National American Miss Kansas Princess Pageant Aug. 10-11 in Wichita. She placed in the top 10 and took home eight trophies and four ribbons. She was first runner up in best thank you note and most promising model. She came in second as Miss Photogenic and fourth in the talent portion of the competition. She's the daughter of Brenda O'Keefe, of Lawrence and granddaughter of Lester and Ruth Waring. I'm sure the grandparents are very proud of Michaela's accomplishments.

Grandsons, Clayton and Cooper Brillhard, spent Friday night with their grandparents Eddie and Opal Brillhart. They all enjoyed the Fort Scott Air Show on Saturday.

Sylvia Singmaster was honored Sept. 8 when her parents, Russell and Nicole and sisters Megan and Madilyn, had a party for her first birthday. She enjoyed opening her gifts. She already seems to understand what a dollar bill is for. Cake and ice cream were served. Those attending were Carol and Sylvia Singmaster, Alvin and Jean Connor, Randy and Robin Conner and Merl and Lucille Phillips, and Esther Secrest.

Several from this area attended the concert at the Heritage Park and Pavilion on Aug. 31. The drawing card was the Babcocks, Lyle and Marilyn and Donald Barton, who presented the program. Marilyn is the daughter of R.B. and Hazel Shoemaker, who are long-time residents of the area. There were a lot of cousins who attended, as well.

This community was blessed with a good rain on Sept. 7. It was needed.

Charlotte Morrell, a school chum of Opal Brillhard, visited with Opal on Sept. 10. They enjoyed lunch out and and spent the afternoon visiting.

Esther Secrest attended the Bourbon County Unit of Kansas Retired Personnel on Sept. 8 at the Fort Scott High School. State Rep. Shirley Palmer was the guest speaker. She explained the workings of the state and how she is involved. She would like to hear from anyone who will write to her reguarding concerns.
