Rain showers delay festival

A surprise 30th birthday party was held on Saturday for Ryan Dugan. A cook-out in the Parrish shop was served with cake and ice cream to follow. Those helping to celebrate were his wife Jenny and his children, Allyson, Kadin and Karter; Christie and Wayne Parrish, Joan and Gere Dugan, Mildred Nicoletti, Vera and John Parrish, Janet and Mark VanLeeuwen, David Peterson, Joe and Becky Nicoletti, Kristen, Paul and Whitney, Tish, Steve, Samantha, Katie and Sarah Potter. Also Phillip, Karen and Shelby Dugan.

The following Sunday, Allyson, Kadin and Karter each went forward to put Ryan's birthday offering in the "little white church Mission fund" at Arcadia Christian Church.

Bill Watt, Independence, Mo,; Delton Jr., Billi Watt and Joseph Meade from Fayette, Mo., spent Labor Day weekend in Arcadia and attended the Christian Church. After Sunday dinner at Gebhardt's, Delton Jr. and family returned home.

Bill and Mae Watt went to Mike and Harry Johnson's home in Girard to attend the Clarkson family picnic gathering. Bill returned home Labor Day evening.

Callers at the Watt home that Saturday evening were Gary Cambers and Joyce Page.

Kevin Wells and son Wesley, with friends, Lisa Nelson and daughter, Shelbie Hume from El Dorado, Mo., were guests of his cousin, Betty and Lou Dehn and attended the Arcadia Old Settlers Festival on Saturday.

The same day Walter Foulk rode in Arcadia Festival Parade as Grand Marshall, he was featured in the paper on Patrick's People Page. In the picture, he is standing beside the rock fireplace his Dad, John Foulk, built when Walter was four years old. He is now 79 years old.

Arcadia High School "Our Gang" gathering for this month is Sept. l5, a potluck dinner in Arcadia Community Center Look forward to the Oct. 20 Chili dump and Bingo night.

Much credit goes to Candice Westfall, Amber Schmitz, Kristina Stansberry and Lacy Bridgewater, young ladies in Arcadia who in just a short time managed to organize the fine Festival last week-end.

In spite of the rain at parade time, the Arma Band remained in their bus and played their marches as the driver slowly drove with windows down on Race Street as the audience under umbrellas applauded.

The Firemen's dinner was delicious, the cake walk a big success. Bingo was played as Holly Reed played and sang during the dinner hour. Many things had to be canceled or postponed, but it still was a success.

Sunday morning the Firemen served sausage gravy on hot biscuits with scrambled eggs.

Pastor David Peterson of Arcadia Christian Church has declared a "New Beginning." During "Joy" Sunday School hour, Patty Peterson gave a testimony. Four points from sermon time to be remembered are "Prayer, Word of God, Fellowship and Remember what Jesus has done for each of us."

Teacher Jace Pavlik led the devotions before communion time. Gary Peterson gave the prayer.

It was announced at church that on Thursday, Sept. 13, Ozark Christian College will be having their Small Church Conference in Joplin. Pastor David Peterson will be attending. "Joy" dinner meeting will be in Bungalow at 6 p.m the evening of Sept. 17.
