Dorothy I. Dighero, 85, of Chanute, passed away Monday, Sept. 10, 2007 at the Heritage Healthcare Center in Chanute. Dorothy was born in Fort Scott, Kan. on April 19, 1922, the daughter of George H. and Bertha R. (Lyon) Niemeir. She grew up and attended schools in Fort Scott, graduating from Fort Scott High School. She also graduated from Fort Scott Junior College. She was united in marriage to Dominic "Dean" Dighero on May 25, 1946 in Fort Scott. He preceded her in death on March 19, 1979. They moved to Earlton in 1951, and then moved to Chanute in 1985. Dorothy was homemaker. She was a member of the First Christian Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, and the Hatch Hooks. She enjoyed biking, puzzles and enjoyed bowling for more than 30 years. Dorothy is survived by two sons, John Dighero and his wife Laura, and Charles Dighero and his wife Patty, both of Chanute; two grandchildren, Tiffany and Deana; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant daughter; a brother; and three sisters. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007 at the First Christian Church. Burial will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, 2007 at the Old Bluff Cemetery, near Liberal, Mo. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007 from 7-8 p.m. at the Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel. Memorials in her name may be made to Heritage Healthcare Center or the American Heart Association and may be left with the funeral home. Penwell-Gabel Gibson Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
