PARSONS -- Fort Scott High School's junior varsity tennis team competed in a seven-team round-robin tournament here Tuesday with its No. 1 doubles team finishing in fourth place.

Labette County's Red team took first place with 12 points followed by Iola with 11 and Neodesha with seven. The Tigers scored two team points.

Brittney Doherty and Lauren Caulfield had a 2-3 record for the day as they finished fourth in No. 1 doubles. They lost to Iola's Hallie Wolf/Dannette Newland in a tie-breaker, 6-5 (7-3), in the opening round and Neodesha's Kristen Ramey/Ashley Clairbourn, 6-3, in the second round.

Doherty/Caulfield won their third match over Pittsburg's Allie Hamilton/Ashley Jimenez, 6-1, before falling to Addie Miller/Carly Spooner of LCHS Red, 6-0. They won their final match of the day over Danielle Roberts/Jeannie Harper of LCHS Gold, 6-4.

Taylor Bailey was 0-5 in No. 1 singles. She lost to Iola's Maria Baker in a tie-breaker, 6-5 (7-3), Neody's Jasmin Gonzales and LC Gold's Kayla Bowin by identical 6-3 scores, LC Red's Paige Almond, 6-1, and Parsons' Amy Shaw, 6-2.

Angela Love was 0-5 in No. 2 singles. She lost 6-0 to Iola's Amanda Carr, Neodesha's Erin Frye, Pittsburg's Ericka Springer, LC Red's Kaley Koger and LC Gold's Kolby Eckelberry.

The Tiger junior varsity hosts a tournament Monday afternoon beginning at 1 p.m. Fans should also note a schedule change for later this month: the Fort Scott JV will not attend a tournament at Parsons on September 17 due to illness affecting the number of team members able to play.
