Charles Edward "Tom" Giddens, 79, a resident of Frontenac, Kan., formerly of Arma, Kan., died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at the Girard Medical Center in Girard, Kan. He was born April 28, 1928, in Fort Scott, Kan., the son of Jesse Giddens and Gladys Manion Giddens. He served in the U.S. Army. He married Ruby Allen on April 7, 1956, in Miami, Okla. He loved music and was a member of the Cherry Grove Baptist Church. Earlier he was a member of the Cedar Creek Troubadours, who sang on KMDO Radio. More recently he was a member of the Cherry Grove Choir and of the Cherry Jammers, playing harmonica, bones and guitar.
Mr. Giddens is survived by his wife Ruby, Arma; son, Barry Giddens and wife Melissa, Mulberry, Kan.; two daughters, Tammy McNaught, Frontenac, and Vicky Giddens, Arma; brother, Isaac Giddens and wife Wanda, Tulsa, Okla.; five grandchildren, Jonathan Hunziker and wife Cheyenne, Michael Plummer, Chrissy Kilman and husband Chris, Thomas Giddens and Cheyenne McNaught; two great grandchildren, Jonah and Aurora Hunziker. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clinton and William Giddens; and three sisters, Opal Watts, Bonetta Buzek and Ruth Akins.
Funeral services for Charles "Tom" Giddens will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 7, 2007, at the Cheney Witt Chapel in Fort Scott, officiated by Pastor Dale Cummins. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
