Birthdays, food, festivities enjoyed by Northwest Scott

Jack and Marge Stephan attended a surprise birthday party Wednesday, Aug. 22, in honor of Jim Stewart the party was held at Mayberry's and was enjoyed by all that attended.

The ladies of the Fort Scott Garden Club enjoyed dinning out the evening of Tuesday, Aug. 21. The nine attending were, Dorothy DeCoudres, Annette Hixon, Chris Judy, Pam Korinek, Debbie Marquardt, Charlotte Thompson, Marie Wiley, Beulah Queen and Betty Hixon. Beulah Queen was honored and surprised when the ladies gave her a birthday cake, and all of the ladies and guys sang "Happy Birthday" to her at Chicken Mary's.

The next Garden Club meeting will be at Betty Hixon's home. Everyone is to bring a salad to share for supper. Anyone interested in joining the Garden Club, just give Betty a call and let her know. Her phone number is 223-4174, or just show up for the next meeting at 2001 Maple Road. The meeting will start at 6:30 p.m. Monday Sept. 17.

On Sunday August 19, Kitty Lewis brought supper and enjoyed sharing it with Marjorie Lewis. They enjoyed playing cards after supper.

The Youth of Grace Baptist Tabernacle enjoyed a progressive dinner the evening of Aug. 17. The enjoyed appetizers at the home of Kevin, David and Jill Hensley. The group then moved to Bob and Kay Hughes' at home for the main course. A dessert of brownie sundaes with all the fixing was enjoyed at the Family Life Center, after the group played some games. Sponsors attending were the youth pastor, Brian and Brandy Rhoades and boys, and Ron and Linda Center and James.

Bill Lewis has been helping his mother, Marjorie Lewis, with some 'honey do' jobs.

Marge Stephan attended a shower Saturday evening and again on Sunday evening, for her grandson Dru Stephan and Jessica Shadden.

Jim and Thelma Marquardt have just returned from spending 10 sunny days in Florida. While there, they visited Jim's brother, Bob Marquardt, and two of Thelma's brother, Bob and wife Coleta Wurtz, and Ray and Betty Wurtz.

Ron and Linda Center and son James traveled to Kansas City and Leavenworth, Wednesday Aug. 22.

Marjorie Lewis spoke by phone to her sister, Isabel Shull, in Vancouver, Wash. Marjorie is looking forward to her coming for a visit in the near future.

Several people from our area attended the Joy Class of Grace Baptist Tabernacle's watermelon and cantaloupe topped off with cookies and ice cream. Their teacher and his wife, Ronnie and Lorraine Wynn had several different wooden puzzles for the guest to try to work out like they were suppose to be, plus some other interesting games. Those from this area attending were, Pastor Paul and Shelley Rooks, Brittani, Chase and Courtney; June Hereford; Ron, Linda and James Center.

Linda Center, James Center and June Hereford traveled to Joplin Tuesday afternoon.
