Maryjo Barrett, 88, former resident of Fort Scott, died early Sunday, July 29, 2007, at the Good Samaritan in Olathe, Kan. She was born May 25, 1918 in Fort Scott, the daughter of William Pressler and Rose Bella Parsons Pressler.
Maryjo was a graduate of Fort Scott High School. She married Harold Edward Barrett on May 31, 1941 in Hot Springs, Ark. He preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 1985. Maryjo was retired following 56 years of employment as secretary for Fort Scott Printing Company. She was an avid bowler having been on a state championship team during the 1950's. She also loved to play bingo.
Survivors include her daughter. Kenda Kay Camp, Olathe, Kan.; two granddaughters, Milynn VanDeKerkhove, Olathe and Mylette Hodges, Chicago; and one great grandson, Owen Hodges, Olathe. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Chardel Barrett, one brother, John Pressler, and three sisters, Ruth Hollingsworth, Dorothy Mae Redden and Rosa Maxine Lietzke.
Rev. Jared Witt will conduct graveside services at 11a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2007, in U. S. National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. Wednesday until leaving for the cemetery at Cheney Witt Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Olathe Hospice and may be sent to Cheney Witt Chapel, P.O.
