Tuesday, July 17, 2007

Arcadians were proud to see the picture of the Pastor of the Arcadia Christian Church, David Peterson, in the Monday morning newspaper, July 16, as he told of his recent trip to Germany and Spain.

Mid-week guests at the Larry Shead farm, rural Garland were Mark & Haley's ORU classmates, James & Amy with Emma, Andrew and Ethan from Tulsa, and Vickie Shead's Palouse, Washington High School friend, Kathleen Whitney, now an Elementary teacher in Eugene, Ore. She also visited her son and family in Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Elizabeth Long and cousins Chelsi Riley and Parker Due came from North Missouri to spend last week with their Grandparents, Betty and Lou Dehn in Arcadia.

Autumn Leaves Senior Citizens met on July 9, 2007 for their monthly dinner and business meeting with 10 present. Lisa Roberts from Girard Medical Center took blood pressure readings, cholesterol and sugar counts before the noon hour. We appreciate this good deed and thankful for the gifts such as a one piece measuring spoon, emery boards and pens. Everyone is welcome to come each month for the free tests.

Pastor David Peterson blessed the bountiful food that all enjoyed.

Lilly Coonrod opened the business meeting with Lord's Prayer and Flag Salute. Entertainment readings were given including THE YEAR 1903 By Mary V. Shead, Jack Payne had a good joke, Mary Lee Payne told of Senior Moments, Lilly Coonrod chose Life's Problems while Carole Garrison read Mommie's Broom. All were pleased with Wiley Teague's presence in that he can tell so much about Arcadia's past. Others present were Helen Sisney and Bob Cavin.

To each lady was given a souvenir from Jack and Mary Lee Payne that they brought to the meeting from their Celebrity Cruise in March. These were very much appreciated.

The Birthday song was dedicated to J.R. Watt of Emporia, grandson of Mae Watt and Skye Gibson of Pennsylvania, grandson of Lorene Gibson on Sunday during opening exercises in Arcadia Christian Church.

Testimonies were given by Kim Domer, Clay Carrington, David Peterson, Jerry Coonrod and Walter Foulk before the sermon by Pastor David. It was based on the Central Theme of the Bible taken from Habakkuk 2: 1-14. This was heard aloud in unison by the congregation as Responsive Reading.

An announcement was made of the death of former member of the church, Darlene Potter Francis in Texas. Burial will be in this area at a later date. She was the daughter of the late, Tom and Edna Potter, well known Arcadia family for many years.
