James Harry Guffey passed away at his home in Chanute, Kansas on June 20, 2007, he was 79.

James was born in Blue Mound, Kansas on October 18, 1927, the son of Benjamin Franklin Guffey and Mabel Estella Smethers Guffey.

He attended Blue Mound schools until his graduation. James served our country in the United States Army. James married Nada Miller on February 1, 1946 in Iola, Kansas. They moved to Chanute in 1951.

James worked as a sales manager at Montgomery Ward for 21 years. He was also a Neosho County Commissioner, 3rd district and a State Representative, 5th district.

He was a member of the Chanute ELKS 806, American Legion Post No.170, Disabled American Veterans and Wesleyan Methodist Church.

James is survived by his wife, of the home; one son, Jim and his wife Toni Guffey of Chanute, Kansas; three daughters, Teresa and her husband Mike Goss of Baytown, Texas, Cheryl and her husband Dan Allen of Parsons, Kansas, and Suzie and her husband Lee Langham, also of Parsons, Kansas; one sister, Joyce Haubrick of Yakima, Washington; eleven grandchildren, and seven great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Donna Mae Guffey and June Conrad; a grandson, Jonathan Langham, and a great granddaughter, Brittany Allen.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, June 23, 2007 at Neosho County Memorial Park Cemetery, formerly Greenlawn Cemetery, in Chanute, Kansas. Memorial contributions may be made to Horizon Hospice.
