Monica Elaine Dunn Pentz, age 89, of Iola, died Sunday, May 13, 2007 at her home. She was born October 31, 1917 in Pawnee Station, the daughter of Harry Owen and Freda Anderson Dunn. She graduated from Fort Scott High School in 1934 and Fort Scott Community College in 1936. She also attended Pittsburg State University. She taught school at Pawnee Station, Neosho Rapids, and Pleasanton. On March 4, 1938, she married Paul W. Pentz. Her husband, the Rev. Paul W. Pentz, was a minister in the United Methodist Church and consequently they lived and served in numerous communities in eastern Kansas. Some of those included Lyndon, Garnett, Iola and Ottawa. He retired in 1974 and they made their home in Iola. He preceded her in death on January 27, 1990. She was a member of the Wesley United Methodist Church and an inactive member of Chapter L. EO of Iola.
Survivors include two sons, C. Rodney Pentz and wife Lynn of Whitby, Ontario, Canada and W. Mark Pentz and wife connie of Chandler, Arizona; one brother, Everett Dunn, Fort Scott; three grandchildren, Eric and Timothy, Canada and Amanda, Arizona. She was preceded in death by two brothers who died in WWII, Clyde H. and Walter J. Dunn.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, May 17, 2007 at Wesley United Methodist Church in Iola, with the Reb. Trudy Kenyon Anderson officiating. Burial at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Evergreen Cemetery, Fort Scott. Memorials are suggested to the Wesley United Methodist Church or Allen County Health Care Foundation-Hospice. Waugh-Yokum and Friskel Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
