Bulldogs get best of Tigers

CARL JUNCTION, Mo. -- Jake Hale held Fort Scott High to five hits and a walk as he pitched Carl Junction, Mo. to a 7-1 win here Saturday afternoon.

The game was arranged as both schools have been plagued by rainouts perhaps more than other schools in the area. Fort Scott fell to 4-4 with the loss, which was two games below the minimum needed to be seeded with its full winning percentage before the KSHSAA made an announcement Monday waiving the rule due to all the problems southeast Kansas schools have had getting their games in.

Fort Scott scored its only run in the top of the third inning when Dillon Knopp's sacrifice fly played Cody Kramer. Knopp, Kramer, John Leek, Drew Lawson and Jordan Renfro each had one of the Tigers' hits.

Cole Pruitt, 1-3, took the loss on the hill for Fort Scott. He pitched the first 2 2/3 innings, allowing six runs, five earned, on three hits and five walks. He also hit four batters and struck out three.

Drew Lawson pitched the next 2 1/3 innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks while striking out four. Mike Karleskint pitched the final inning, striking out one.

The Tigers' home games with Iola Monday were cancelled due to wet grounds. They're scheduled to host Columbus for one game Wednesday at 6 p.m. There is only one game because the Titans will be unable to leave Columbus in time for a complete doubleheader.

Fort Scott is scheduled to go to Chanute to finish the regular season Thursday. However there's at least a 30-percent chance of rain both days and a 40-percent chance on Friday.

NOTES -- The KSHSAA also said that teams may attempt to make up regular-season games between the end of their time at Regionals through the end of the State Tournament, meaning that non-qualifying teams could be playing league games during State.

The KSHSAA's statement addressed the fact that many teams have had trouble getting their games in and that leagues may need to use this time to get games in that impact league championships. However, Regional tournament seeding will still take place Wednesday, based only on winning percentage.

The 20-game regular-season limit will still be in effect....
