The meeting opened by repeating the purpose. Roll call was answered by seven members telling their favorite rainy day activity.
Lavone Page read the minutes of the last meeting. Mabel Miller gave the treasurer's report.
Judy Tripp gave devotions, reminding us of the sacrifice Jesus made when he died on the cross. We can never sacrifice too much for Him as he sacrificed everything for us. We can not earn God's love, but we are expected to share it with others.
Dora Page presented the lesson titled, "Easter, Rise and Shine, For Christ Has Risen." The worship center was covered with a white linen cloth, centered with a large flower covered cross, an open Bible, a white candle, and an accent cloth of purple. Lavone Page and Clara Brewer assisted with the lesson. The lesson emphasized that God expects us to share our knowledge and resources with those in need. We are to allow our light to shine to others that are living in "darkness." The lesson was closed with prayer nd singing, "This Little Light Of Mine."
Mrs. Page also gave a report from the "Response" magazine on globalization.
Clara Brewer gave a report from the prayer calendar. Five members planned to go to the spring luncheon at West Liberty on April 13. Many were listed for prayer concerns. The meeting closed with the Lord's Prayer. Mrs. Page served refreshments of cupcakes and lemonade.
The Hiattville Lodge No. 216 had their annual chicken supper on April 10. The Eastern Star ladies, under the direction of Effie Mitchell, prepared the food. The Grand Master Jimmie Grassi and his wife were special guests. Mr. Grassi presented 50 year pins to Charles Gift, Dean Mitchell and Jim Henning. Mr. Gift was pinned by his wife, Mae Ellen, Mr. Mitchell by his wife, Effie, and Mr. Henning by his wife, Beth. Each one then introduced the members of their family that was present. Gerald Mitchell is Master of the Hiattville Lodge.
Ideal Chapter No. 369 Order of the Eastern Star met April 12 with Effie and Dean Mitchell presiding in the East as worthy matron and worthy patron. Shirley J. Palmer, past grand matron and grand trustee was presented, introduced and escorted to the East where she was saluted with grand honors.
Grand Ruth Beverly Davis and District Aide of District No. 4 Clara Brewer, were presented for introduction, given a hearty welcome and seated by way of the East. Since this was the first meeting of the new year, the worthy matron welcomed everyone with a poem titled, "New Beginnings."
The chapter greatly appreciated the check for $256.40 from the lodge which was the profits from the chicken supper. Mrs. Mitchell expressed her appreciation for all the help in preparing for the supper. A large crowd attended. She again congratulated Charles Gift and Dean Mitchell on receiving their 50 year pins.
Shirley Palmer and Karen Endicott Coyan were installed as marshall and electa with Beverly Davis as installing marshall.
It was agreed to again purchase an ad in the Kansas Shrine Bowl booklet.
Reports were made on members Billie Young, Marge lewis, Agnes Armstrong, and Oma Mitchell, also former members Robert Endicott and Paul McDermed.
Beverly Geiger and Margaret McDermed are the Sunshine Committee and ask members to please let them know about members that are ill or in the hospital.
During the Good of the Order, Beverly Davis and Clara Brewer were especially honored by the worthy matron with a clever story, which wished them well as they attend the Grand Chapter session. They were presented a gift of potted plants from the worthy matron and worthy patron along with small maps of Kansas showing some of the places they had visited this past year in their appointments of Grand Ruth and District Aide.
The officers assembled around the altar and the worthy patron led them in renewing the obligation.
Mrs. Palmer, as the retiring worthy matron, had a special skit honoring the Mitchells for taking over and presiding when she and Mr. Geiger could not be present. She used the theme of "Footprints." They were escorted to the star points where they were greeted with special wishes for the year. She presented them with a large gift of fruit. They expressed their thanks to her and wished her well as our state representative.
Easter candy was passed by the conductress, as she collected the coin collection, compliments of the worthy matron and worthy patron. The next meeting will be April 26.
Refreshments of sandwiches, chips, cheese, crackers and cookies, were served by Beverly Davis and Effie Mitchell.
Patty Gauthier, Beverly Davis, Lavone Page, Mattie Nell Dixon and Clara Brewer enjoyed attending the spring luncheon at the West Liberty Church on April 13. The Rev. Dean Flanner, portraying John the Baptist, presented the program following the delicious meal. They also enjoyed visiting with Regina Woodworth and Virginia Chambers, former members of the Hiattville Church.
The community potluck was held at the church with a good attendance and lots of good food and fellowship.
Paul Brewer and son, Soloman, of Fort Collins, Colo. were weekend visitors at the Charles Brewer home. Joining the visitors fro lunch on Sunday were Laura and Payton Vogelbacher of Spring Hill, Kevin, Rachel, Kayla and Kole Wagner, George and Mildred Hall and Clara Brewer.
Martha Ann Callow gave a birthday offering at worship on April 15. Mrs. Nancy Richwine was a welcome visitor. Special music was two vocal solos by Cassie Schwalm accompanied by Mrs. Richwine. Pastor Peterson's sermon was titled, "Christ Triumphant." Scripture was read from Revelations 5:11-14 and John 20:19-31. The monthly administrative board meeting was held immediately following Sunday School.
All ladies and girls in the community are invited to attend the mother and daughter carry-in supper at the church on May 12. If you do not have a mother or daughter of your own, borrow one for the evening.
Ronnie Brown was privileged to be in Topeka last week for the signing of legislation by Gov. Sebelius to increase matching funds for the Conservation Districts of Kansas. This has been a gold of the Conservations Districts of Kansas for several years. Also, he was invited to attend a round table discussion in Garnett t talk about the new farm bill and conservation needs nationally with Nancy Boyda. He reports the discussion was very encouraging.
