'Hawk girls, Eagle boys win team titles

BURLINGTON -- Jayhawk-Linn's girls and Uniontown's boys won the team titles at the Waverly Invitational, which was held here Monday. JayhawkLinn's girls scored 92 1/ 2 points, beating out Burlington by 12 1/2 points. Pomona was a distant third with 51 1/2 points. Uniontown's girls finished seventh out of 16 teams with 36 points.

Eagle boys scored 99 points to beat second-place Waverly by 19. Third-place Lebo was 30 points behind Waverly with 50 points. Jayhawk-Linn was fourth with 44.

Jayhawk girls won five events, including all four relays. The 4x100- meter team ran a 53.46 in winning. The 4x400 team finished in 4:19.57. The 4x800 team was the only one under 11 minutes with its time of 10:43.89.

Dawson picked up individual wins in the 400 meters in 1:04.83 and the long jump at 16 feet, 6 inches.

Uniontown's girls didn't have any event winners. Abbie Smith's mark of 15' 9 1/2" in long jump was their only second- place mark.

Eagle boys had five event winners, including the 4x100meter relay team, which ran a 45.30. Gage McKinnis took the 100 meters in 11.44, Clayton won discus at 139' 5" -- a mark nearly 11 feet better than the runner-up -- and Brandon Boyd took the 200 in 23.06 and the long jump at 21' 7".

Jayhawk-Linn's boys didn't win any events but picked up two seconds. Snyder ran the 110 hurdles in 16.18 while teammate Johanning was third in 16.28. Johanning was second in the 300 hurdles in 42.19.

Uniontown will host its annual home meet, which Jayhawk-Linn will attend, Monday afternoon at 3:30.
